Chapter 185
Adrian and I walked to a nearby small restaurant.
On the way, I no longer cared whether anyone was following us. What was there to be afraid of between Adrian and me anyway? If someone took photos to show Ferris, I didn’t care either.
Meanwhile, Ferris’s phone screen was lit up.
The people following me had already sent him photos.
He looked at the pictures of Adrian and me walking side by side in the rain, me wearing Adrian’s coat, my expression calm and indifferent.
He gripped his phone tightly, the fire in his eyes impossible to suppress.
No wonder I insisted on leaving the company – it was to go on a date.
He felt suffocated inside, yet didn’t know what exactly he was angry about.
Just then, his phone rang again.
The caller ID showed Victoria.
As soon as he answered, she was so excited her voice trembled: “Ferris, news from Los Angeles says… he says he
might wake up!”
Ferris was shocked, his fingers gripping the phone even tighter.
“I understand,” he said, then hung up directly.
In the restaurant, I sat across from Adrian, looking at the exquisitely plated dishes before me, but couldn’t muster any appetite. My stomach kept churning with acid.
“I looked into that Dennis,” Adrian said quietly. “He’s Ferris’s twin brother, but there’s very little information about
him.”
I looked up: “Is there nothing else? Like where he is now?”
Adrian shook his head, “The Vargan family’s security level regarding him is too high. It’s unlikely we can find out in a short time.”
I felt an even deeper unease.

Chapter 185
“Why did you suddenly ask me to investigate him?” he looked at me.
I put down my knife and fork, my fingers tightening slightly saying quietly: “I feel like I might have… gotten something wrong.”
“Gotten wrong?”
I shook my head, “It’s nothing. I’m leaving soon anyway, so there’s no point in investigating.”
But the more casually I spoke, the more Adrian felt this Dennis wasn’t simple for me.
I didn’t want to continue this topic and quickly changed the subject.
I smiled and talked, but even I could tell how fake that smile was.
Adrian could see it too.
Before he could ask more, I returned to the main topic: “I’ve decided to take Linus away in five days.
He was stunned: “Why five days?”
I explained quietly: “Ferris and I have an agreement… I’ll stay with him for a month, and after that he’ll let us leave. There are only eleven days left now. But I know he won’t really let go easily.”
“So you want to leave early and deceive him?” Adrian understood immediately. “Make him think you’ll stay for eleven more days, but actually… leave after five days?”
“Right.” I nodded.
I added: “Five days from now is when Ashley’s academic conference opens. Once we expose her background, she’ll definitely go to Ferris, and then he won’t have time to worry about us.”
This wasn’t just about escaping – it was about making Ferris see the truth.
I wanted him to know whether Ashley had really saved him.
Not to make him feel guilty, not to claim back a favor, but because I didn’t want someone I despised to keep bouncing around above me with the halo of “lifesaver.”
Moreover, someone like Ferris who could completely forget that I had taken a knife for him – his kindness to Ashley surely wasn’t just because of gratitude.
