A growl. Then thirds of fists hitting flesh.

Ferris stumbled, face marked instantly,

I froze, stunned. Then a familiar figure charged in-

Adrian.

His eyes sliced like knives, rage pouring off him.

“What gives you the right to touch her?” He snarled, landing a second punch, square on Ferris’s jaw.

“You lost her! Who the hell do you think you are, cornering her like this?!“.

I’d never seen Adrian hit anyone. Even in tense business deals, he stayed cool. But now? Pure homicidal intent, like a wolf gone mad.

Ferris recovered, eyes flashing bloodthirsty, fired back. They tangled, grappling.

I heard a table crack, glass shattering.

Two Alphas, fighting not for power–for me.

“Leave, or I call the cops!” I shouted.

Ferris’s gut twisted. Once, I’d always taken his side.

Now I chose someone else.

Ferris tore his gaze away, stalked out.

After he left, I ran to Adrian. “You okay?”

My hand brushed his arm. He hissed.

“Fine.” He said.

But his sleeve darkening–blood seeped through, staining my fingers.

“Your arm’s bleeding.”

Adrian shrugged off his coat, baring a muscular arm. A jagged knife wound had split open in the fight, blood streaming.

He pressed the coat to it. “Old injury. Scared you?”

Adrian hadn’t expected Ferris to fight back so hard.

By then, Adrian’s men filed in–all bruised.

They saw his wound. One stepped up to bandage it.

“Alpha, hospital?”

“Nah. You all clear out.” Adrian said.

Once they left, Adrian turned to me. “Ferris hurt you?”

I shook my head. “No. You got here just in time. Thanks.”

Adrian frowned. “Knew he wouldn’t let it go.”

In the car, Adrian pulled a diamond ring from his pocket, tossed it out the window.
