In Shu City, Bai Lu and Bai Yun were in a one-bedroom apartment Luofeng had arranged for them. It was located in an old residential complex imbued with a sense of history.
In the living room, a sickly Bai Yun was wrapping dumplings, but her complexion had improved considerably since Luofeng had last seen her.
Bai Lu was diligently recording information, mainly about the various types of vegetables and meats from the surrounding wet market—their freshness, taste, and other details.
The thirty-five-inch LCD TV in the living room was on, broadcasting the New Year’s Eve gala.
Although the sketches weren’t very funny, Bai Yun and Bai Lu laughed heartily. After all, how could they have a TV in the mountains? Bai Yun, especially, watched with great interest.
"By the way, Mom, what did you think of the onions we ate tonight?"
Bai Yun considered for a moment, then shook her head. "I didn’t think they tasted very good."
"Yeah, even though it’s called ’Organic Onion’ and is expensive, I didn’t think it tasted very good!" Bai Lu said, recording these evaluations. She continued, "I think those ’Organic Potatoes’ and ’High Mountain Potatoes’ aren’t tasty either—not as good as our Wuyang Potatoes!"
"Yes!" Bai Yun nodded. At the mention of Wuyang Potatoes, her thoughts immediately returned to their old home in the mountains—a corner forgotten by the bustling world.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
"Who is it?" Bai Lu asked cautiously. Apart from Luofeng? She had no other friends, so it was unlikely anyone else would visit.
Gu Yongjie’s voice came through, "Hello, Bai Lu, I’m Gu Yongjie!"
"Manager Gu?" Bai Lu asked, puzzled. She checked the peephole, and sure enough, it was him. Then she opened the door.
Gu Yongjie was holding two large bags of New Year’s goods. "Happy New Year, Bai Lu!"
"Happy New Year, Manager Gu. What are these?" Bai Lu asked, looking at the New Year’s goods.
"These are all items you need to evaluate for the New Year: lamb, beef, chicken, and so on. Besides, Boss Luo also has a gift he asked me to deliver to you!" Gu Yongjie placed the two large bags on the coffee table.
"Alright, the items are delivered, so I’ll be going. Please tell Boss Luo I’ve made the delivery," Gu Yongjie said.
With some effort, Bai Lu moved the two heavy bags from the coffee table to a cupboard. One bag indeed contained various types of meat. All these meats were vacuum-packed in small bags, looking quite high-end.
Bai Lu placed these items in the refrigerator one by one, noting the time she did so. The other bag contained New Year’s goods, including some chocolate, candy, nuts, jellies, biscuits, and so on. There were also two new sets of clothes and shoes.
Bai Lu silently regarded these items, sighing inwardly. Every time she felt she had grown a little closer to Luofeng, something would happen to bring her back to reality. Yet, after each such awakening, another event would draw her back into her fantasies.
For instance, right now, had Luofeng truly not forgotten her? she wondered.
Bai Lu picked up her phone, thought for a moment, and then sent a message to Luofeng.
"Student Luo, I’ve received the gift you asked Manager Gu to deliver. Thank you!"
Luofeng replied, "Do you like it?"
Bai Lu looked at Luofeng’s reply, her gaze complicated.
"I do!"
"Then remember to send me a picture later. I want to see if my choice suits you."
"Okay!"
After replying, Bai Lu turned to her mother. "Mom, Luofeng sent New Year gifts, including two sets of clothes—one for each of us!"
"He sent them for you. I don’t want them!" Bai Yun refused.
"No, he said there’s one set for each of us," Bai Lu explained.
Bai Yun was taken aback for a moment, then nodded. "Okay!"
"Mom, let’s try on the new clothes first," Bai Lu suggested.
Bai Yun suddenly stopped wrapping dumplings and said softly, "I’m sorry, Bai Lu!"
Bai Lu understood what her mother meant; she hadn’t been able to buy Bai Lu new clothes for many years. So, while the new clothes brought happiness, Bai Yun felt a pang in her heart.
Luofeng hadn’t sent any luxury clothing, just down jackets from a sports brand. He was very considerate about these details. Would luxury items suit Bai Lu? Of course not.

By midnight, Luofeng had received a flood of New Year blessings from classmates, spanning from elementary school to university. Looking at the sheer volume of messages, Luofeng couldn’t help but wonder, Am I really this popular? It wasn’t like this last year, was it?
