She had never told Mr. Kevin Everly about her pregnancy, because she didn't know how to bring it up.
If she had known something like this was going to happen, she would have told him sooner.
Keith was reluctant, but he knew how important the old man was to Amara. He took her hand. “Alright, I’ll take you back first. But you remember this: if anyone at the Everly estate gives you a hard time about this, you call me immediately, and I’ll come get you. Don’t you dare let them bully you.”
Amara nodded. “Don’t worry. No one will give me trouble over this. If they do, I promise I’ll call you.”
Keith drove Amara back to the Everly family mansion. She got out of the car, waved goodbye to him, and turned to walk toward the front door.

Finnian hadn't gone to the office today. He was sitting on the sofa, staring into space.
It had been almost an hour since Amara left. A cab ride from the Everly estate to City Hall took about twenty minutes. By now, they must have already gotten their license.
So, Amara was now Keith's legal wife. She officially belonged to another man…
The thought tormented Finnian, each wave of pain like a knife twisting in his heart.
Just then, the front door opened and Amara walked in. She seemed not to see him on the sofa as she put down her keys and took off her shoes.
Finnian was stunned. Shouldn’t Amara be celebrating with Keith after getting her license? Why was she back so soon?
Then he noticed that something was wrong with her expression. Her hair was a mess, as if she had been through something, and there were tear streaks on her cheeks. What happened? Had she been crying?
Finnian shot up from the sofa and strode over to her. “What’s wrong? Did someone hurt you?”
