Unscented (Emilia and Wesley) novel Chapter 37

Chapter 37

“Mom, i didn’t have a choice. He didn’t let me, I’m so sorry.” I squeezed my eyes shut as she dragged me down the stairs to the basement, flinging me to the ground before chaining me up to the same familiar post. “This is all your fault, you don’t even deserve a mate. Because of you, he will feel every hit I’m about to give you.” I built up the wall to him as much as I could before the whip sliced through my skin, a cry of pain leaving me.

I felt the wall crumbling with every hit, every ounce of blood I lost I became weaker and weaker until he walk was simply a single cement block. I could feel his wolf on the other side, feel how utterly guilty and sad he felt. With another hit it fell and Wesleys presence became known in my head, my eyes glazing over and shining white as I saw his room. That’s another reason I’m stronger than my mother, I don’t always need the seer pools. He shot up from his bed, his eyes wide and bloodshot. He hadn’t shaved in days, his hair greasy and matted to his head. He looked so tired and pale it

broke my heart even more, and it became evened worse when he let out a cry of pain as the whip hit my back. ‘Wesley go to sleep. Please, build up a wall and block me out.’

He shook his head as he got out of bed stumbling, grimacing as another rack of sobs hit me. Pain radiated as she hit me, not even bothering to aim. anymore. ‘No, this is my fault. I saw the signs, I just ignored them because I didn’t think. This is my fault, all my fault.’

‘No, it never is. I’m making our house visible but she’ll leave, please, don’t make me regret this.’

I clenched my teeth before reciting the incantation I needed to change the visibility of the house and finally stopped blocking my scent, a gasp of horror leaving my mother. She screeched before walking around the post to stare as my face, pulling her fist back before she punched my jaw again. “You’re leading them here?!” I coughed, blood filling my mouth and falling down my lips.

She grabbed a knife from her ankle and slammed it into my shoulder, even more blood falling out of my

mouth as I tried to not choke on it. I couldn’t breathe, think, or even see. I vaguely heard the door slamming shut and footsteps leading up the stairs, until it was silent. It felt like hours, or days, but in reality it was probably minutes, if that. I heard the paws, the bowls and barks, but I couldn’t respond to anything. I kept choking on blood, the pain from the knife stuck in my shoulder lessening until it became a dull point of

annoyance.

I jumped when I felt a touch, looking up to find James stare. Tears fell from his face as he looked over me, his

mouth open in horror. “Wesley! Andrew!” He croaked out, his voice cracking as he tried to not sob. Andrew and Wesley came barreling down the stairs with almost the same looks in their faces, all three of them staring at me in shock and horror. Funny, I was the one tortured and they’re having a hard time doing anything but sobbing.

“I’d, I’d, I’d like to get out of these chains please.” I wheezed and coughed up even more blood. That seemed to snap them out of their trance, Wesley gripping the chains as he broke them and ripped them from my skin. His hands burned but he didn’t care,

carefully wrapping me into him as he bolted up the stairs. My head rolled back as I tried to not cry from the pain, a groan leaving my lips as the knife dug even deeper into my skin. I lifted my hand to rip it out but he stopped me, grabbing my hand as we came closer to the hospital.

“It’s too close to an artery, let the healer do it. I can’t hurt you anymore.” His voice broke, somehow breaking me even further. “Did you, did you tell the pack about me?” He shook his head, letting me sigh out gratefully. I didn’t need the pity from them, nor did I need them to know about my shitty life. “I told them Rogues attacked you, but I did tell them what you were. I just said it was dormant till now, and that your powers just came in as well.” I nodded when my eyes began drooping lower and lower. I heard Wesley growl as we finally reached the hospital and came into the main lobby, a blast of cold air attacking my skin. “Get me a fucking doctor!” Alpha Wesley came out then, making me give him a slight smile. “Keep your eyes open Emilia.” I opened them just a bit more, as the pain radiated at full force across my body. White light penetrated everything, blinding the beautiful face I so

desperately wanted to see. “Why? I just want to sleep.”
