These words hit her hard. She has accompanied him for so many years. She did deliberately make others think they were a couple, but he never stopped her.
She thought Victor acquiesced in her behavior.
She thought he didn't mind having a relationship with her, so he allowed her to so those things.
But now...
She shook her head, her face pale, as if ready to prove something. "It's not like that, Victor. I didn't mislead others. Besides, we've known each others so long, from high school to now..."
Maybe he would be touched by their history together.
She targeted Elinor for she feared Elinor would take Victor away from her, and that he would be distracted by her, so she hatched this scheme to make him break off with Elinor.
She was just afraid of losing Victor.
Her sad look got no sympathy from Victor. He stared at her expressionlessly, and said slowly, "It's no use to play smart with me. I didn't mention it before because I was lazy to do so."
To understand it better, he actually never cared about her, so he never took it serious when she fabricated their relation in front of others.
It's not worthy of his attention.
She pressed her lips. "I misunderstood your meaning. Vicky, don't be angry. I swear it won't happen next time."
Next time?
He squinted with a malicious look. If she dared to do it again, it meant she didn't get the lesson yet.
"Damn you, do I look poor?"
Victor tidied himself and was about to leave with his laptop bag and phone. "When will you arrive?"
"In five hours. I'll leave for the airport."
Kurosawa said, "See you later."
After he hung up the phone, he planned to leave, never taking a look at Darleen. Before he went out, someone hugged him from behind.
"Don't leave..."
It was Darleen. Her tender body clung to his back. She said weakly and helplessly, "Vicky, I'm sorry. Please don't leave."
