Chapter 222
Keith couldn’t really blame Serena for her sudden drunken antics. If he hadn’t brought out the beer in the first place, she wouldn’t have exten no confused, and she definitely wouldn’t have accidentally downed that vodka.
After leaving the room, Keith finally heard Serena’s phone ringing persistently from the dining table.
Right, they’d forgotten about her phone earlier.
Keith walked over and picked up Serena’s phone from the table. The caller ID showed “Kristy.”
He remembered that name–one of Serena’s close friends. After a moment’s hesitation, Keith decided to answer. He thought, ‘What if it was something important?‘ He didn’t want to delay anything urgent.
“Finally! I’ve been calling you like crazy. Didn’t you hear your phone?” Kristy’s voice came through the instant he picked up, firing off questions.
Keith fell silent for a moment, unsure which question to tackle first. He cleared his throat. He said, “Um, Ms. Carlos? Hi, this is Keith.”
The other end went dead silent. Keith realized his words might sound misleading, so he quickly added, “Ms. Gray had too much to drink. I was worried you might have something urgent, so I took the liberty of answering. Is there something you needed?”
Kristy was stunned. She glanced at her phone’s clock–8 PM. Why would Serena be with Keith at this hour? And drunk, no less!
Kristy knew Serena better than anyone. Serena was always so disciplined and self–controlled. She was well aware of her low alcohol tolerance, so she rarely drank around people she wasn’t entirely c
comfortable with.
Kristy said, “Nothing major, but Serena’s not great with alcohol. Can you send me the address? I’ll come take care of her.”
Keith had no grounds to refuse, so he gave Kristy the address. She hung up quickly, and Keith turned to tidy up the kitchen.
After a flurry of activity, Kristy found Serena fast asleep. Nothing awkward had happened as Keith had feared. Still, Kristy had definitive proof that Keith and Serena had been living together this time.
Her mind was screaming, and she looked at Keith with evident embarrassment. “Sorry, did I interrupt something tonight?”
Keith wanted to explain, but didn’t know where to start. Kristy quickly raised her hand to stop him, indicating she understood perfectly, then looked at him with genuine sincerity.
Kristy said, “I’m leaving right now. I won’t breathe a word about what I saw tonight, don’t worry.”With that, she hurried off again.
Keith stood in the entryway and couldn’t help but sigh–he felt like the misunderstanding was only getting deeper.
He went back to the room where Serena was sleeping soundly. Keith had planned to wake her up for some hangover soup; otherwise, she’d probably feel terrible in the morning.
But seeing how peacefully she was sleeping, he decided not to disturb her.
Keith should have left, but instead, he lingered in the room, silently watching Serena for a long moment as complex emotions churned deeper within
him.
He suddenly realized something had been off about himself lately–every time he saw Serena, he felt genuinely happy.
When he heard about other men pursuing her, anger would flare up inside him, and he’d deliberately pile on work assignments ep her from meeting
Julian.
The fact that he’d resort to such childish tactics left Keith himself incredulous.

Chapter 222
He wondered, Could it be that I’ve fallen for Serens?‘
The moment this thought surfaced, everything about his recent behavior suddenly made perfect sense.
He turned and quietly slipped out of the room, changed his clothes, and felt relief wash over him when he saw Alyssa was already asleep in her room.
Stepping outside, he pulled out his phone and made a call. “Want to grab some drinks?”
The voice on the other end immediately took on a tone of mock disbelief. “Dude, it’s past ten at night. Mr. Family Man himself is asking me out for drinks at this hour? What’s wrong with this picture?”
Keith caught the sarcasm in his friend, Thomas Wright’s, voice but kept his expression neutral.
“I’m calling someone else then,” Keith said.
“I’m coming! Send me the address and I’ll head over,” Thomas replied.
There was no way Thomas would pass up a rare opportunity like this–Keith asked him to hang out. Something was definitely up, and Thomas could practically smell the drama.
Half an hour later, Keith and Thomas met
up
at
a bar.
Keith was already drinking when Thomas arrived. Seeing Keith in such a state was like witnessing a ghost. Thomas immediately went over.
He threw an arm around Keith’s shoulders and said, “Dude, what’s wrong with you? Talk to me, what happened?”
Keith drained his glass in one gulp, then spilled everything that had been going on.
“Wait, you’re talking about Serena–that’s not Victor’s ex–wife, is it? She’s been married before and has a kid!” Thomas was shocked.
Serena had quite a reputation in their circle. She was gorgeous and devoted to Victor–that kind of woman was rare.
What happened after that was even more dramatic. The whole mess with the Powell family had become such a spectacle that half the city watched the drama unfold.
