She wondered, “What will Keith think when he wakes up and realizes what happened?‘

Last night, he’d seen her at her most vulnerable and embarrassing, utterly different from her usual composed self.

Serena couldn’t help but take a deep breath and close her eyes.

She was never drinking in front of anyone again–especially not Keith!

“Seri, you look terrible,” her colleague said, walking over with her bag slung over her shoulder. She studied Serena with concern. “Are you feeling sick?”

Serena quickly snapped back to attention and shook her head. “I probably just didn’t sleep well last night. Did Mr. Brannon come in today?”

Her colleague nodded, then made a face like she’d just dodged a bullet, patting her chest dramatically. “I ran into him in the elevator just now, and he looked like he was in a terrible mood.”

She added, “We’d better keep our heads down and work today instead of slacking off, or we’ll be in deep trouble if Mr. Brannon notices!” With that, her colleague returned to her desk and went straight to work.

‘Bad mood? It must be because of how out of line I was last night–that’s why Keith is angry today. Serena felt even more guilty.

Several people walked into the design department a few moments later, carrying bags of breakfast items.

“Mr. Brannon’s treating everyone to breakfast today. There’s all kinds of stuff, so come take a look.”

The office erupted in cheers. Serena looked puzzled as her colleagues pulled her over, and she could see that Keith had bought from an expensive breakfast place.

“Mr. Brannon is so generous! He does these employee perks every now and then. For once, us working folks get to feel spoiled!”

Her coworkers were full of praise. Serena didn’t want to stand out, and besides, she hadn’t eaten breakfast that morning and didn’t want to keep

starving.

She grabbed a few sandwiches and a cup of soy milk before returning to her desk.

After she left, James quietly noted. “Ms. Gray likes sandwiches and soy milk for breakfast.

Back at her workstation, Serena ate her breakfast silently, but the more she thought about it, the worse she felt. ‘I caused Keith so much trouble last night, and now I’m just sitting here eating the breakfast he bought like nothing happened?‘

With that thought, Serena sighed quietly and decided to find Keith during lunch break to explain herself.

All those harsh words she’d said last night weren’t directed at Keith at all–she’d just been bottling up too much frustration lately, and alcohol had given her the excuse to let it all out. She felt genuinely sorry for dragging Keith into it.

During lunch break, Serena made a memorable trip to buy afternoon tea from a place outside the company known for its excellent taste, then headed up to the executive office on the top floor.

“Mr. Brannon?” Serena stepped into the office and found Keith frowning at his computer screen, which made her approach more cautiously than usual.

Seeing Serena’s unexpected arrival, Keith cleared his throat and set aside his work.
