“Alright, enough with the blame game.” After a long pause, Serena took a deep breath, her voice tinged with resignation. “What matters now is getting you healthy again, then tracking down whoever’s behind that driver and making them pay.”

“I’ve already gathered plenty of evidence on Hansen Group–tax evasion, the works. They won’t be able to wriggle out of this one” Keith had never been one to turn the other cheek, especially when someone dared to come for him directly.

He continued, “Once I’m feeling better in a few days, I’ll head to the police station and hand over everything. Won’t give them a moment to breathe

Serena nodded, finally looking relieved.

“Just be careful though. If they’re bold enough to pull a stunt like this right here in Hayland, I’m worried they might get desperate once you submit that evidence.”

“The moment we show fear, we’ve already lost.”

Keith was about to say more when he saw Sophia walking in with Alyssa. Both of them immediately fell silent.

Over the next few days, Serena devoted herself to caring for Keith.

Her own body was still aching from the ordeal, but her injuries were minor compared to his. James occasionally tried to convince her to go home and rest, but she refused every time.

Watching Serena work late into the night again before finally leaving, James couldn’t help but wonder aloud. “Mr. Brannon, do you think Ms. Gray actually likes you or not?”

Keith let out a helpless chuckle at the question. “If I knew that, I wouldn’t be feeling so anxious right now.”

But Keith had never been one to sit around waiting. Since he couldn’t be sure, he’d create an opportunity to find out.

The next morning, when Serena arrived at Keith’s room as usual, she found a large bouquet of flowers sitting on the bedside table.

“Did someone come to visit you?” Serena asked.

It might have been different if they were just any flowers, but these were roses–a massive bouquet, still fresh with morning dew. There were so many that the entire room was filled with their delicate fragrance.

“Nobody sent them. I bought them myself.” Keith got straight to the point. “I think I owe you a proper confession. Before I say those four words, could you please not reject me just yet?”

Serena looked stunned. She quickly understood what Keith meant, and her gaze grew shy, darting around the room.

She said, “I’m sorry, but Mr. Brannon, you really don’t need to go this far just because of Alyssa.”

The more Serena thought about it, the more convinced she became that Keith didn’t like her–he thought she was the most suitable choice.

However, Keith shook his head. “Serena, I genuinely care about you–not because of Alyssa, but because the woman I’ve come to know is resilient, brave, and honestly, your beauty is probably the least remarkable thing about you.”

He’d expected these words to come out awkwardly. Still, when he saw Serena standing there, Keith realized that admiring her felt completely natural.

Serena embodied all these qualities simply by being herself.

“What I’m trying to say is that even without Alyssa in the picture, I would’ve noticed you for exactly these reasons. I care about you because you’re Serena–not because Alyssa.”

Suddenly, there was movement at the door. Serena felt oddly guilty and fumbled to set the flowers down, turning to find Alyssa standing there.

“Alyssa, what are you doing here?” Serena asked.

Hospitals were full of germs, so aside from those first days when Keith was still unconscious, they’d all agreed to keep Alyssa away.

Alyssa’s face was full of mischief. She didn’t say a word, but Serena immediately understood what she meant.
