Chapter 242
Chapter 242
The next morning, Victor brought Leon to the hospital to visit Alyssa.
Victor knew his presence would be awkward, so he stayed by the door. He patted Leon’s head gently, signaling that he could go in.
Leon carried a large bag of items into the hospital room. His eyes held a mixture of caution and eagerness to please as he looked at Serena and offered her the bag.
“I brought some fruit and toys for Alyssa,” he said. Alyssa sat on the hospital bed. She knew Leon was coming today, but thinking about how he’d bullied Serena before made her face cold.
“Sit down,” Serena said, taking the bag from him. “I’ll wash some apples for you two.” She glanced at Alyssa.
Alyssa nodded, letting Serena know it was okay to leave. Only then did Serena feel comfortable stepping into the bathroom.
Leon sat in the chair, looking at Alyssa’s pale face. He felt uncomfortable, too. After all, he used to really dislike her.
But now that Serena cared about Alyssa, he was willing to try getting along with her. He thought, ‘If I’m nice to her, maybe Mom will like me more.
“I heard you were sick. Are you feeling better now?” Leon’s voice came out hoarse and uncertain, his eyes searching Alyssa’s face with worry and careful hesitation.
Alyssa pressed her lips together and stayed silent, putting up this total wall between them.
In the past, Leon would have lost his temper long ago with his usual attitude, let alone speak nicely to Alyssa. But this time was different.
He just looked down at his hands, fidgeting with them, unsure how to start the conversation.
Serena finished washing the apples and walked out to see this scene. Seeing Leon learning to control his temper and be kind to those around him filled her with quiet relief.
She had watched Leon’s changes over this period. She quickly peeled the apples and handed half to Leon, half to Alyssa.
“Thank you, Mom.” Leon hadn’t eaten an apple washed by Serena in so long. His eyes lit up as he held the apple carefully in his small hands, treasuring
Serena felt a mix of emotions watching him treat her so cautiously. She let out a soft sigh.
Leon jumped down from his chair and looked at Serena and Alyssa.
He said, “I know I was wrong before. I shouldn’t have been so mean to you both, and I shouldn’t have been so rude to Mom. I really understand my mistakes now, and I’m trying to change. I hope you can forgive me.”
Alyssa finally gave him a few glances, still distant but different from before. It was progress–she’d completely ignored Leon until now.
“I wouldn’t call it forgiveness,” Serena said quietly. “I just hope you’ll keep getting better. You don’t need to be so careful around us. As long as you do the right thing, no one will blame you.”
Serena stepped forward and gently ruffled Leon’s hair.
Leon stayed in the hospital room for a while, but Alyssa remained distant. He felt discouraged but knew he couldn’t force it.
He stood up and said goodbye to Serena. “Mom, I should go now. Can I come see you and Alyssa again next time?”
Serena nodded. Her gentle eyes softened with familiar warmth. “You can come find me whenever I’m free. But that doesn’t mean we’re wiping the slate clean. If you go back to how you were beføre, I still won’t forgive you.”

Chapter 242
Hearing Serena’s words, tears filled Leon’s eyes. He’d thought he’d never see her again, never imagined she could be this kind.
She was slowly letting him back in.
Serena wasn’t exceptionally soft on him–kids make mistakes, that’s normal. She had already promised Leon that as long as he could change, she wouldn’t keep pushing him away. A promise was a promise.
She led Leon out of the hospital room, and the moment she looked up, she saw Victor. He stood across the hallway, watching them with a complicated expression. When their eyes met, intense love flooded his gaze. He called out, “Seri.”
Serena brought Leon to him, but her earlier smile from the hospital room disappeared. “Thanks for bringing Leon here.”
Seeing Serena slowly accepting Leon, Victor felt something stir in his heart that had been frozen for so long. He wondered, ‘If Serena can forgive all the wrong things Leon did before, what about me? Could she wipe clean everything I’ve done, too?‘
A spark of hope flickered in Victor’s chest. He reached out, about to grab Serena’s wrist and ask if she could give him another chance, when a man slowly walked over to her.
Victor had met Keith before and heard his father mention him–a self–made businessman with real skill and connections. He was also Alyssa’s father
“Seri.” Keith walked straight to Serena, wrapped his arm around her waist, and then looked at Victor..
“Mr. Powell. It’s been a while.” His voice carried an edge of hostility that Victor caught immediately–the subtle antagonism aimed directly at him.
Combined with Keith’s possessive gesture, Victor understood their relationship
instantly.
Keith had just come downstairs to give Leon and Serena some space together. But as he rounded the corner, he caught sight of Victor’s gaze fixed on Serena, complex and intense.
As a man himself, Keith immediately understood what that look meant. Victor still had feelings for Serena. He wanted to salvage their failed marriage.
