Chapter 309
But Duke didn’t inch. He wiped his face, poured a full glass from the bottle, and slid it across the table to Chloe. “Finish this, and I’ll forget tonight ever happened. Sound good?” His eyes glinted with desire.
wet before Chloe could answer, Serena stepped in, “She’s had enough already. We’re not drinking with you.”
That bottle had been brought out from who knew where. Serena had no idea what might be in it. She wasn’t about to let Chloe take the risk.
“So you won’t drink my booze and you’re throwing shade? You here to start trouble?” Duke’s voice dropped, cold and threatening. “I’ll give you one chance. Don’t push it. This is my place. One word from me and no one’s letting you out that door.”
As soon as he finished talking, the guys behind him were already rolling up their sleeves, clearly ready to throw down.
Chloe had seen worse chaos abroad, and she was already in a foul mood. She couldn’t help but laugh.
“You punks call yourselves tough? Please. You’re just street rats playing gangster.” Serena stepped in front of her protectively.
Duke reached toward Chloe, but his hand froze midair, blocked by Serena’s slim, trembling frame.
‘She’s shaking. She must not be used to scenes like this. But she’s still standing in front of me. She’s not letting anyone touch me,’ Chloe realized.
“You idiot,” she muttered under her breath.
Duke’s face turned icy. “Fine. If you’re so eager to defend her, then you drink it. But nobody’s leaving until that glass is empty.”
He shoved the full glass toward Serena again. “Drink it, or I’m done being polite. Next comes force.”
Serena picked up the glass.
Duke’s expression relaxed into something smug. “Now we’re getting somewhere. Guess you’re the sensible one. Drink up and I’ll make sure you both-”
He didn’t get to finish because Serena threw the liquor straight in his face.
The second time stung worse than the first. He wiped himself off again, but the surrounding laughter made his face go dark. “I tried being nice,” he growled, slamming a hand on the table as he stood. “You come in here acting tough, disrespecting me? You’ve got a death wish!”
He lunged forward, trying to grab Serena, but right then, police burst through the bar entrance. “Hands off!”
Officers quickly zeroed in on the chaos and slammed Duke and his guys onto the table. “Douglas Marino. You again? This month alone, how many times have we had to haul your ass in?”
The lead officer didn’t even bother asking who started it. The moment he saw Douglas, he knew.
The cops moved fast, cuffing Duke and his lackeys while the bar crowd quietly turned their attention elsewhere.
