Watching You Burn In Regret novel Chapter 58

Seren's gaze flickered, just for a moment.

Of course.

Otherwise, there was no way to explain why Old Mr. Rutledge had shown up uninvited, and with such perfect timing.

It was the kind of feeling you get when someone is always quietly taking your side, a warmth that lingered in her chest long after.

Rush hour had arrived. The GPS showed a long stretch of red snaking through Seaside City's main roads—traffic was jammed everywhere.

To avoid getting stuck, Lennon steered them onto the city's ring road, skirting the worst of the congestion.

He was focused on driving, and Seren didn't want to distract him. With nothing else to do, she idly scrolled through her phone.

Almost by accident, she ended up on her social feed. At the very top, someone had just posted big news—a set of wedding certificates, their crimson covers bold and eye-catching.

It wasn't until she saw those certificates that Seren suddenly realized: after she and Lennon had registered their marriage, she'd never actually shared the news with her friends.

The thought hit her—maybe that made her seem dismissive of their marriage, almost as if she hadn't really given Lennon the recognition he deserved.

That wasn't fair to him.

Her gaze dropped to Lennon's hands.

His fingers were long and pale, every knuckle clearly defined. On his left ring finger, a wedding band glinted quietly.

He hadn't taken it off since that night.

Seren lowered her eyes.

She wore her wedding ring, too.

She'd never been one for jewelry, but this ring—other than the time she'd slipped it off at The Antiquarian's Gallery—hadn't left her finger in days.

At first, it felt strange, almost cumbersome, but over time she'd gotten used to it.

Just like she'd gotten used to having Lennon by her side. At first, his constant presence had unsettled her, but now it was becoming a part of her daily life, something she could hardly imagine being without.

After thinking it over, Seren turned to Lennon.

"Would you mind if I took a picture of our rings? I want to share the news with my friends."

Seren was impulsive—if she didn't do something the moment it crossed her mind, she'd probably forget about it later.
