Chapter 9
Back then Cyril received Jolie’s call, he abandoned Freda at the cemetery and rushed to a derelict factory on the outskirts of town.
Jolie was cowering behind some debris, trembling with fear. Her cheek was red and swollen, her dress had a streak of blood on it, she was covered in mud, and her hands were pressed tightly over her mouth as tears streamed down
her face.
One look at her and Cyril felt his heart break. He rushed to her side and pulled her into his arms.
“I was so scared…” Jolie finally broke down sobbing, her shoulders shaking with each cry.
Cyril kept kissing her forehead and rushed her to the hospital.
Thankfully, she was just shaken up–the baby was fine.
“What the hell happened? Who dared to kidnap you?” Cyril’s face was dark with rage, his whole body radiating
menace.
Jolie bit her lip and said nothing, so he ordered his people to investigate.
He had no idea that the investigators had already been bought off by Jolie. She pinned everything on Freda.
It was Freda who wanted to teach Jolie a lesson. She’d somehow found out about the pregnancy and was ruthlessly trying to get rid of the baby.
Cyril fell silent for a moment, seemingly unable to believe it.
But faced with solid evidence, he had no choice but to accept it.
He ordered his men to grab whoever had attacked Jolie and beat the hell out of them–a warning for Freda.
Cyril took Jolie home, but completely unaware that it was Freda who’d been beaten. Meanwhile Jolie was secretly recording his every word and action to show Freda later.
After comforting Jolie and hand–feeding her dinner, Cyril finally had a moment to contact Freda.
[Hey babe, you home yet? Jolie had some kind of accident and called me freaking out. I couldn’t just leave her hanging, so I took her to the hospital.]
[Freda, please tell me you didn’t have someone go after Jolie. She literally saved your life–why would you want to hurt her?]
[Once she’s feeling better, you two need to sit down and work this shit out. I can’t have this kind of drama happening again.]
Cyril’s messages were full of accusations and warnings. He didn’t even realize that his heart had unconsciously

shifted toward Jolie.
His messages went unanswered, which made him anxious. But thinking about how Freda had been throwing tantrums lately and refusing to answer his calls, irritation flared up instead.
He’d spoiled Freda too much, making her feel like she could act out however she wanted around him.
This time, Freda had gone way too far. He wouldn’t rush back to comfort her like he usually did–she needed to realize her mistake.
Cyril put down his phone and returned to Jolie’s side. Looking at her pale face, Freda’s image suddenly flashed in
his mind.
