Chapter 1970 Teach Magnus A Lesson
“I honestly don't know how you've managed to survive this long,” Denise said, eyeing him like he was some kind of rare, clueless creature.
Magnus let out a dramatic groan, his face twisted in frustration. “I can't take it anymore. Can I borrow your phone? I need to call my sister.”
Despite everything, he was still the sole heir of the Smith family. If this torment continued, he genuinely felt he wouldn't last.
Without a word, Denise handed over her phone.
Magnus tried dialing a few numbers, but each call reached the wrong person.
After the third failed attempt, Denise raised an eyebrow. “You don't even remember your own sister's number?” she asked, dryly.
Magnus scratched his head, clearly unbothered. “Why would I memorize that? I've never had to.”
Then, as if struck by sudden brilliance, he said, “Wait. I'll just call Jamieson Group directly.”
He pulled up their website, found the customer service number, and dialed, hoping someone there could connect him to Cecilia.
“Good evening, sir. How may I assist you today?” came the polite, professional voice of the customer service representative.
Magnus leaned forward, speaking quickly, “I need to speak with Cecilia—your general manager. I'm her younger brother, Magnus. Could you please let her know I'm on the line?”
There was a brief pause.
Then, faintly, Magnus could hear murmurs in the background.
“Some guy's claiming to be the GM's brother,” someone whispered.
“Seriously? Another nutcase. Just hang up,” replied another voice, unimpressed.
“Got it.”
Magnus stared at the phone screen, stunned. The call had been cut off.
With no way to reach Cecilia, Magnus had no other choice. He turned to the only person he could still hope for: his grandmother. Thankfully, this time, he managed to recall her number.
The call connected. Desperation flooded his voice. “Grandma, please... I need help. Can you send me some money?”
Then a thought struck her. “Lottie, send a few people to teach him a little lesson.”
Charlotte blinked, unsure. “What kind of lesson are we talking about?”
But Cecilia's lips curved into a smile. “Actually, we've been pretty free lately, haven't we? Why don't we go ourselves? It'll be fun to see just how far he's fallen. What do you say?”
“All right,” Charlotte replied without hesitation. After all, she spent most days cooped up in the office, bored out of her mind. The idea of a little drama was too tempting to resist.
Once the decision was made, Cecilia looped in Queenie and gave Nathaniel a heads-up about the trip to another state.
Nathaniel, concerned, said, “I'll come with you.”
But Cecilia waved him off. “Focus on your work. I'm only going for the night. I just want to see how pitiful Magnus has become, then I'll head right back.”
Nathaniel did not insist.
Meanwhile, Charlotte approached Eric and asked him to recommend a few professional actors to tag along. And with that, their little entourage set out, ready to witness the tragic comedy that was Magnus' current life.
