When Her Death Couldn't Break Him (Cecilia and Nathaniel) novel Chapter 2096

Denise understood Brycen and Calliope's feelings.

In the past, everyone would return to their hometown for the holidays, gathering with relatives and neighbors to have a great time chit-chatting.

But now, they had to stay in the city for the holidays, fearing they might have a sudden medical episode and not make it to the hospital in time had they returned to their hometown.

"All right, we'll watch this last segment and then go to sleep," Denise coaxed her parents, much like how one would coax a child.

Brycen and Calliope were considerate toward her, so they nodded in agreement. "Okay."

Magnus also kept them company, explaining the variety show to Brycen and Calliope.

"The segments now aren't as good as they used to be. The holiday season also isn't as lively as it once was," Brycen lamented.

He also knew it was the same in their hometown—everyone was busy on their phones, barely interacting with one another.

"Next year, when we go back to our hometown, it will definitely be lively," Denise said with a smile.

Brycen and Calliope did not reply, their faces etched with bitterness.

It was because they knew they would not live to see the next holiday season.

Furthermore, even if they did go back to their hometown, it might not be lively there.

Ever since they fell ill, even their closest relatives had forgotten about them, unwilling to associate with them anymore.

After watching a mediocre comedy sketch, Brycen and Calliope lost interest in the variety show and got up to go to bed.

"Let's go," Brycen said.

"Okay," Calliope replied.

Magnus quickly got up, "Mr. and Mrs. Laney, I'll escort you back to your room."

"Sure. We happen to have something to talk to you about," Calliope said.

Denise leaned in. "What is it, Mom? Why do you have to talk about it behind my back?"

Calliope gave her a side-eye. "Quickly go take a bath and rest. Don't pry so much. Anyhow, your father and I won't be badmouthing you."
