A house staff member stood at the door.
"Sir, the car is ready."
"I got it."
After the staff member left, Jonathan looked at Anneliese again.
"Your body isn't in good shape. You should…"
Anneliese cut him off. "I'm fine. I can keep resting in the car on the way back. I'm really worried about Grandma."
He saw how firm she was, so Jonathan stopped trying to talk her out of it.
He knew Nishay meant a lot to her. He also knew that she looked soft and gentle, but she was very stubborn. Once she made up her mind, she rarely changed it.
He bent down and lifted Anneliese into his arms. He stayed silent as he walked out.
Anneliese looked up at him. She stared at the sharp line of his jaw and closed her eyes when her eyelashes lowered.
He never answered her question.
Silence had become his answer.
Jonathan carried her over to say a quick goodbye to Derek and Penelope. Then he took her into the RV.
Jonathan saw her frown a little. He tried twice to ask her more questions, but Anneliese stopped him each time by saying she felt uncomfortable.
After that, she closed her eyes and fell asleep quickly.
Jonathan had no choice but to drop it. When he saw that she was not sleeping well, he lay down beside her and pulled her into his arms with care. He adjusted their position to lessen the bumps.
By the time they got back to Maple Bay, the sky had already gone dark.
The car door opened. Anneliese got out on her own. Jessica had gotten the message in advance, so she was already waiting on the steps.
"Annie, you're finally back! Let me look at you. You really didn't get hurt? I swear, the White family is awful!"
Jessica ran over the moment she saw her. She lifted her arms like she wanted to hug Anneliese, but then hesitated.
She had been a mess these past two days. Anneliese had been kidnapped because she went out late to buy a pregnancy test for herself. Jessica blamed herself so much that she felt like slapping herself.
How could she have let Anneliese go out alone that late? If something really happened to her, she would never forgive herself.
Anneliese saw her red eyes. She smiled softly and warmly and stepped forward to hug Jessica first.
"I'm really fine. Look at me. I'm standing right here. To be honest, it even worked out in the end. Selina and Timothy wouldn't be able to show up in front of me again. They would get what they deserved."
