Soren held Tara tightly in his arms in the second-floor corridor. He said nothing, but the tenderness in his expression and gestures made it clear that he was deeply in love with her.
Shawn was leaning against a wall, as if he had been waiting for Tara and Soren for a long time. His eyes were lowered, looking at no one. But Soren could tell something was off about him, so he pulled Tara even closer.
Tara thought the same too. Shawn was different from Lance. After that night, he knew she had been with him before.
"I heard everything." Shawn's gentle voice echoed in the corridor. He appeared calm and refined, yet there was no doubt of the danger he carried.
He didn't seem threatened by Soren's presence. He was only there for Tara.
Being the smart man he was, Soren had more or less guessed who Tara's other ex was. His face darkened as he tried to lead her away.
Tara's heart was pounding. Shawn was even scarier than Lance. Not only was he good at getting into people's heads, but he was also patient and was unafraid of playing the long game.
The next moment, Shawn grabbed her right wrist, his fingers quietly rubbing against her skin.
He looked at her, and in a rare cold tone, said, "Break up with him."
Soren's eyes turned red with rage. He tried to pull Shawn's hand away, only to find he had no intention of letting go. Furious, he punched him hard in the face.
Perhaps because he didn't want Tara to lose her balance in the scuffle, he released his grip on her. The punch knocked his glasses askew, sending them to the floor.
Terrified, Tara grabbed Soren and tried to leave. "Soren, stop hitting him, and let's just go home."
But Soren, already consumed by rage, wasn't about to stop.
