When Love Turns Dangerous novel Chapter 86

By evening, Tara had already worked out the details with another housekeeper, including how much money to give her.

She didn't feel any pain parting with the money. After all, she wasn't doing the work—someone else was, and naturally, that person should get paid for it.

Tara also wasn't worried that Lance would blow up at the housekeeper. First, Lance wasn't that kind of person. Second, he would immediately know it was her idea and wouldn't blame the housekeeper.

However, the housekeeper didn't understand why she was suddenly asked to bring Lance his meal.

The housekeeper asked Tara, "Is Mr. Swain in a bad mood lately?"

Tara shook her head and replied awkwardly, "Mr. Swain… really doesn't like me. So, I'll have to trouble you with this."

Only then did the housekeeper understand what was going on. Still, she was worried that Russell might find out and dock her pay. "What if Mr. Robertson finds out…"

Tara reassured her, "Don't worry. If Mr. Robertson finds out, I'll take full responsibility. If they dock your pay, I'll cover it myself."

The housekeeper had worked with Tara for a few days and could tell she wasn't a complicated person. She always did her work earnestly, and when other housekeepers ran into trouble, Tara quietly helped them out, too.

So, the housekeeper trusted her and agreed without hesitation.

At dinnertime, Tara first brought the meal to Jonah's room. She had scheduled Soren's delivery for last.

Jonah seemed even busier than before. Whenever she delivered his meals—morning, noon, or night—he was always holed up in his study.

After leaving Jonah's room, Tara pushed the meal cart into Shawn's room.

When Shawn saw her, he smiled and asked, "You've been looking distracted these past two days. Are you tired?"

His concern felt like a warm current running through Tara's uneasy heart. He was so observant.

She smiled back. "A little, but it's nothing serious."

She walked over to the dining table and started setting things up.

Once she finished and was about to leave, Shawn stopped her.

She turned her head and saw him holding a small jewelry bag. The bag alone was enough to show that whatever was inside was expensive.
