With the King absent, Andrew and the Queen announced the rules on his behalf.

Waldo understood Adele’s doubts. Though he still deeply resented the Yates family’s coldness toward him, the memory of Jessica’s defiant demeanor made the corners of his lips curl up involuntarily.

He said, “Yes, Mother. I saw it with my own eyes. I never expected Jessica to show such a domineering side.”

Waldo thought, “Not just domineering, but wild too, though nothing like Priscilla’s mindless savagery. She’s the complete package, courage, strategy, guts, and fire. Somehow, that image just got branded deep in my mind.‘

Adele and Aryana Wilkins caught the faint smile playing at his lips. They exchanged a knowing glance, a shared sense of unease settling in their hearts.
