Chapter 269
Chapter 269
Jessica had not visited Leon House in three days.
Tension crackled in Leon House–Leon had been simmering with barely contained rage for days.
Theard Jessica went to Waldo House. Is she still thinking about Waldo? Has she forgotten about me?‘ Leon thought.
He was restless and on edge, so furious he nearly lost control.
Just then, a voice called from the doorway. “Your Highness, there’s a young lady outside requesting an audience.”
“Bring her in at once!” Leon ordered, his mood shifting.
In a flash, Leon changed into a crisp white outfit–Jessica had once commented that his all–black wardrobe made him appear overly grim and intimidating.
Today, Leon hoped white might soften his image. He even thought he looked rather dashing.
But as he approached the doors, a frown crept onto his face.
‘A lady requesting an audience?‘ Leon thought.
The guard had not mentioned a name earlier. If it were Jessica, Leon knew that the guard would have said “Ms. Yates“, not something vague like “a young lady.”
Leon was a little frustrated. He turned toward his study, wanting to go through his letters. ‘Forget it. It’s probably not Jessica… he thought. But just as quickly, he spun back around. ‘But what if it is?‘ he thought.
With that thought in mind, Leon broke into a brisk walk, heading straight for the main hall.
Sure enough, a young woman stood waiting in the hall.
The moment Leon stepped into the hall, a breeze–light as a whisper–swept over her.
Draped in white, Leon’s striking figure exuded an intense aura. At first glance, his presence was formidable and cold, but upon closer look, his elegance and poise were ethereal, almost divine.
‘How can one man be both terrifying and divine?‘ Yuna wondered, entranced.
The half–mask on Leon’s face did nothing to diminish his charm–if anything, it added an unfathomable mystique no other man could replicate.
Yuna had always admired Leon. But seeing him now, the image of him burned itself into her memory. One look, and she knew–she would never forget.
“Your Highness-“Yuna opened her mouth to speak, but to her astonishment, Leon turned to leave.
“Your Highness!” Yuna called, hurrying to stop Leon. “I’m Yuna McBride! I took part in the Autumn Hunt alongside the Waldo House previously.”
She hurried after Leon, stepping into his path. “There’s something important I need to speak with you about.”
Leon had no recollection of the name Yuna, but the mention of the Waldo House caught his attention.
“What’s Waldo up to?” Leon asked. He found himself suddenly interested in the affairs of the Waldo House.
Leon thought, ‘Jessica visited Waldo House a few days ago. I wonder what she said to Waldo. She hasn’t come to see me these past few days.
‘Maybe that crybaby Waldo is spinning stories about me in front of her.

‘After all, Jessica and Waldo had been together for so many years. Everi if Jessica’s heart belongs to me now, she might still feel some sympathy for that weakling.
Leon gave it some thought and realized Yuna did not seem quite so intolerable anymore.
He turned back to the main hall and ordered his servants to serve coffee.
Yuna let out a quiet breath of relief and stepped inside. However, Leon did not invite her to sit, which made her feel a little awkward.
Not one to fuss over formalities, Yuna chose to sit down on her own, calmly and decisively.
“Alright, tell me, what’s been happening at the Waldo House these past few days?” Leon asked as he sipped his coffee. The upper half of his face was hidden behind his mask, but his sharp nose and defined lips were impossible to miss.
Yuna looked at Leon and felt a strange warmth stir in her chest–something she had not felt in nearly 18 years.
‘If his face hadn’t been scarred, he would be a man of unmatched beauty,‘ Yuna thought.
But Yuna did not mind Leon’s disfigured face.
Yuna was not drawn to looks. What she wanted was Leon’s unmatched strength, that commanding presence that outshone all others in the realm. That was the man she admired–scars and all.
“There’s been nothing out of the ordinary at the Waldo House these past few days, Your Highness. But that’s not why I came. I came because of something far bigger–something that could change everything in Novigrad,” Yuna said.
