“Principal, bad news–the teacher is gone.”

The words stunned everyone: Natalic, Finn’s mom, even the principal.

“What are you talking about? How can a person just vanish?”

“I don’t know. I went to find her, but she wasn’t anywhere. I even called her phone, but it’s still on her desk in the classroom. No one knows where she went.”

The chief himself felt spooked. He had even asked the gate guard, who swore no one had entered or left the kindergarten except Baron and the children.

Fear prickled at Finn’s mom. She clutched Natalie’s arm tightly.

“Maybe we should just go. This place gives me the creeps.”

She had already made up her mind–once her son recovered, she’d transfer him. She would never let him set foot in this kindergarten again.

Natalie also wanted to transfer her own children, but Susie was at the heart of the incident. If they didn’t get to the bottom of it, the stain on her reputation could follow her forever.

“If you’re scared, you should head back. Let’s exchange contacts. Tomorrow I’ll take Susie to the hospital to see Finn. Don’t worry–our family will take full responsibility for what happened.”

Natalie didn’t want Finn’s mom to spiral into suspicion. If she wanted to leave, Natalie wouldn’t stop her.

But to her surprise, Finn’s mom shook her head.

“No, no. My husband just called. He says Finn’s out of danger, only needed stitches and rest. My mother–in–law and my husband are with him now. I’d rather stay and see what’s really going on here. If I go home without answers, I won’t sleep a wink.”

She was blunt, but genuine.

The principal, on the other hand, felt her head splitting. Two parents refused to leave, and now a teacher was missing.

“Call the police. A person doesn’t just disappear–we can’t sit on our hands!” the principal barked.

But the chief looked miserable.

“Principal, they won’t take a missing persons case until twenty–four hours have passed. And she was here only half an hour ago. We should at least search first.”

“Fine, then search. And check the surveillance again–any clues?”

The chief shook his head.

“I’ll go with Susie’s mom,” Finn’s mom said quickly, holding Natalie’s arm tighter.

Natalie didn’t know whether to laugh or sigh at her clinginess.

“Alright, come with me then.”

That answer lit up Finn’s mom’s face.

The group split into three teams to comb the kindergarten.

Finn’s mom, restless as ever, shivered as she recalled the principal’s stories. The whole place gave her chills.

“You said we’d add each other on WhatsApp, right? Scan me! I’ll only feel safe if I’ve got you.”

Natalie hesitated. She had grown up under the Summers family, raised to be independent, even isolated. Once in middle school, she had a best friend–an ordinary girl–but her parents publicly humiliated that friend until she nearly took her own life.

Her parents had only sneered, saying this was the consequence of mixing with people beneath

her.

After that, every attempt Natalie made to connect with others was blocked. Over time, she came to believe solitude was fine, even preferable. She never shared her WhatsApp casually.

But this time was different. Susie had hurt Finn, and Natalie had promised to share her contact. Refusing now would be rude.
