At once, Chris turned and left.

Waylon, hearing their exchange, began to piece things together.

“Natalie, is that why you didn’t press Juliana just now?”

“Yes. We’re casting a long line to catch a big fish. Juliana is tied to the baby–switching from back then, and that Anna who looks like her is the one who poisoned and hypnotized Susie. She may look like a five- or six–year–old, but inside she’s an adult–cruel and venomous. I need the truth, and I need justice for my daughter.”

Natalie’s voice was cold, carrying a hint of steel.

Ruby frowned but didn’t speak.

“Mom, Dad, I’ll go check on the kids.”

Natalie knew Ruby’s bond with Juliana was deep, but she also had to show her own stance clearly.

As Natalie left, Ruby sighed and looked at Waylon. “Do you really think Juliana’s a problem?”

Waylon saw her distress and said quietly, “Do you trust our daughter?”

“I do,” Ruby answered firmly. Then she sighed again. “But it’s hard to believe. Juliana has been with us for so many years. If she truly had a hand in the baby mix–up, what could she possibly gain? And if she ever wanted to harm me, she had countless chances when my health was failing. But she didn’t, did she?”

Her words left Waylon pensive.

“I don’t know what her purpose is either. That’s why we need to wait for the investigation to unfold. We must trust our daughter and Baron. The truth will come out eventually.”

“I just feel so heartsick,” Ruby whispered, clutching at her chest, eyes glistening.

Waylon wanted to comfort her, but no words came.

Meanwhile, Natalie had gone into Sean’s room.

“Sean, what happened to Susic isn’t your fault. Don’t blame yourself.”

She sat down and pulled her son onto her lap.

His body stiffened, eyes reddening.

“But I’m the older one. Something happened to her and I didn’t know. She must have been so scared.” His voice trembled.

Natalie stroked his hair gently. “Sean, yes, you’re the older twin–but only by a few minutes. You’re still just a child yourself. And when you grow up, you and Susie will each have your own life. As her brother, you can protect her within your ability, but you don’t have to bear such heavy pressure. Susie isn’t your responsibility, do you understand?”

“But…”

Sean’s throat tightened.

Mommy wasn’t blaming him.

Yet he knew he could have kept Susie away from Anna. He could have sensed something wrong sooner. But he hadn’t.

If Finn hadn’t been injured, he wouldn’t have known about Susie being poisoned and hypnotized at all.

He had failed so badly–yet Mommy didn’t scold him.

Tears burned his eyes.

Seeing how mature her son was, Natalie’s heart ached even more.

“Sean, you’re just a child. If anyone is responsible, it’s me and your daddy for not noticing sooner. Listen to me–don’t carry this weight. If you do, Susie will only feel sad for you.”

“I understand, Mommy. I’ll adjust myself. Has Susie woken up yet?”
