Holding the black card–pressured into her hand and heavy with her mother’s love–Natalie felt her chest warm.
This time she didn’t refuse. She slipped the card into her pocket.
“Alright, I’ll listen to you, Mom. I’ll go out later and buy the whole of Ocean City. Don’t you worry about the cost.”
“I’d love that. Your father and I want you to spend the family money.”
If she spent more, at least Ruby’s heart would feel lighter.
Natalie smiled, said goodbye to Ruby, and left the living room.
Watching through the crack of her bedroom door, Juliana’s eyes grew wet.
A black card?
Ruby had actually handed Waylon’s black card to Natalie?
That card wasn’t common–it carried weight. Juliana had even used that black card for purchases on Ruby’s behalf before, so she knew its significance. It wasn’t just a card; it was a symbol of status and of the Stone family’s approval.
Now Ruby and Waylon’s favor toward Natalie left Juliana seething.
She quietly shut her door, took out her phone, and dialed a number.
“No matter what it takes, arrange an accident. I want Natalie dead.”
After giving the order, Juliana hung up.
Natalie had no idea.
She told Chris to get the car from the garage. As they drove out, Chris murmured, “Ms. Natalie, I checked Juliana’s background. There’s nothing–unfortunately, nothing we can find.”
“A nanny–housekeeper with no trace?” Natalie frowned.
Chris nodded. “Yes. Except for her birthplace and ID records, there’s nothing. Usually someone’s life leaves traces, but hers doesn’t. The only thing we can find is that more than twenty years ago she worked as a cleaner at the hospital where Madam gave birth. She helped

a woman having a depressive episode—her support apparently helped, so the husband brought her into the Stone household. Since then she’s been the family housekeeper up to now. But before that–there’s no trace at all.”
Natalie’s eyes narrowed.
“Is she an alien who crawled out from a crack in the rocks? Either someone wiped her previous traces, or she’s using another person’s identity. Since we can find her birthplace and registered origin, send someone low–profile there for field work. Remember: tell no one. Send someone inconspicuous to investigate quietly.”
Chris hesitated briefly at Natalie’s order, then set about carrying it out.
At that moment Natalie’s phone rang. She glanced down–an unknown number. Frowning, she swiped to answer.
“Hello?”
“Natalie, it’s Aubree.”
Aubree’s voice over the line made Natalie stiffen.
“Is Finn all right?” she asked. She’d only just returned; the children were still resting, and she couldn’t drop everything to see Finn now. According to local customs, visiting the sick in the afternoon wasn’t appropriate. It was almost noon–she didn’t want to be blamed for neglect. She had planned to take the kids to check on Finn in the morning, so Aubree’s call made her anxious.
Aubree hurried to explain, “No, Finn’s okay now–he’s awake. We asked him, and he said the one who hit him was Susie, but Susie’s expression back then was different. He told us Susie’s eyes were red. Kids‘ words aren’t always reliable, but their visual impressions usually aren’t lies. Maybe you should have Susie examined thoroughly–I worry there might be other factors in her body.”
Aubree hadn’t wanted to mention it originally, but she’d witnessed Susie being poisoned and hypnotized. As a fellow mother and a friend of Natalie’s, she felt she had to warn her.
Natalie’s heart dropped.
If Aubree hadn’t said anything, neither she nor Baron might have discovered that. “Okay. I’ll have the family take Susie for another full check. Aubree, thank you. Tomorrow morning I’ll take the children to see Finn, and I’ll have Susie apologize to him.”
“Oh, don’t worry. It’s not Susie’s fault,” Aubree replied casually. She wanted the real culprit.

“Natalie, any clue about that Anna?” Aubree asked.
“Not yet. I’m investigating. Don’t worry–I’ll get you an answer.”

Aubree nodded. “We’ll investigate on our side too. Whoever finds something first, let’s share information. Sound good?”
