Jensen had said those words before. Back then, every time Natalie heard them, her heart melted; she had believed that as long as she was with Jensen, no matter how bitter or difficult life got, she would always have strength and something to lean on.
But now, hearing the same words again, all she felt was irony.
Any trouble? Every bit of trouble she’d ever had came from Jensen!
Still, she couldn’t say much now–after all, Clara and Beth needed Jensen’s help.
“Thanks,” Natalie said flatly.
Then she hung up, not bothering to say another word. Jensen, however, was slightly stirred by her brief response.
He had wanted to tell her that he would make sure to bring everyone safely to Ocean City, but the only thing he heard was the flat beep of the disconnected call.
A wave of indescribable emotion rose in his chest, leaving him with a bitter taste.
He glanced at Clara and Beth outside and said evenly, “Get in the car.”
Beth and Clara quickly climbed in.
“To the airport. Hurry!”
Jensen gave the order to Hansel.
Hansel glanced at him uneasily. “Mr. Jensen, your injuries-”
“Forget it. I’ll live. Natalie entrusted this to me, so we need to get them out of this mess as fast as possible; otherwise she’ll be worried.”
The deep emotion in Jensen’s voice made Beth steal a glance at him.
Hansel said nothing more, stepped on the accelerator, and the car sped toward the airport.
Baron finally let out a breath of relief when he saw them drive off.
That necklace–he had found it intentionally in Natalie’s jewelry box.
When he’d gone to Ocevaris, Baron had known Jensen would go too.

Everything Jensen had ever given Natalie, she had either burned or thrown away. The only thing that survived was that necklace–forgotten among her design sketches and spared by
chance.
Natalie had tossed it into the trash, but Baron had seen it and picked it up. He’d thought it might come in handy someday; sure enough, today it had.
He had originally thought he’d use it back in Ocevaris.
Baron always planned for more than one outcome.
No one paid much attention to Jensen’s car, so it arrived at the airport without issue.
The Luke family was a powerful one; no one dared to inspect their private jet,
When Beth, holding her son, boarded the plane with Clara and Jensen, she finally felt a weight lift from her heart.
Jensen had tried several times to ask if there was any important message they wanted him to pass along to Natalie, but neither Clara nor Beth opened their mouths.
He could tell it wasn’t something he was meant to know.
A dull ache settled in his chest.
The cracks between him and Natalie had started the moment Sharon appeared; now they felt like they were worlds apart.
The pain in his heart mixed with the pain in his wounds, and Jensen finally had to ask Hansel to treat them.
The two women, avoiding any appearance of impropriety, stayed as far from him as they could.
Just as Baron boarded the plane, his phone rang–it was Westin.
The line was noisy, chaotic.
“Mr. Baron,” Westin said quickly, “you were right as always. Those scumbags really have been tailing us–causing trouble nonstop, even trying to take us all out.”
“How are you now?” Baron’s brows furrowed.
Westin was his brother-in–arms; he couldn’t help but worry.

Hearing the concern in his voice, Westin laughed. “Don’t worry, Mr. Baron. We can handle this kind of situation–it’s just a few injuries. You can just make it up to us later with some extra medical fees.”
“As long as you all make it back to Ocean City alive, everyone will get their bonus. Remember, you’d better come back in one piece!”
Baron had told them to draw enemy fire only because he had no other choice.
He checked the time and said in a low voice, “Westin, start driving toward the city center now. Someone will meet you there.”
Westin paused for a second, then seemed to realize something.
“Mr. Baron, you’ve arranged backup for us?”
“Of course. You’re my brothers; I’m not about to leave you to take all the heat alone.”
Hearing that, Westin laughed again. “Got it! Mr. Baron, wait for us in Ocean City!”
When the call ended, Westin turned the car around and sped toward the city center.
Baron’s expression darkened.
The people chasing Westin were relentless; their real target was Beth and her son.
James, huh? He wanted to see exactly what kind of man this was. Baron swiftly pulled out his phone, his long fingers flying across the keyboard as streams of complex code filled the screen.
If Susie had seen it, she would have been shocked–she’d always thought she was the only one in the family who could hack at that level.
