**Chapter 238: The King Unmasked**
FINN
Austin’s voice trembled beside me, his disbelief palpable as he stared at the live feed flickering on the screen. “H-how can he be the Alpha King?!” His eyes were wide, filled with a mixture of horror and confusion. “I’ve seen the Alpha King before; there’s no way it’s him! I even saw His Majesty in the palace just a week ago. What the hell is going on? I’ll find out—”
He began to link with the wolves stationed at the palace, urgency lacing his every thought. Meanwhile, I remained transfixed, my gaze locked onto Asher’s face displayed on the screen. I couldn’t blink; it was as if my eyes were glued to the image. Gradually, my attention drifted to my own hand, resting on the table, trembling slightly.
“No wonder his bloodline felt familiar that day,” I whispered to myself, recalling the way Asher had carried himself—calm, inscrutable, and yet radiating a subtle dominance that seemed out of place for an ordinary Alpha. “He must have manipulated his bloodline mark to hide his true identity.”
Suddenly, Austin burst back into the room, his complexion ashen, his hands shaking. “Alpha!” he exclaimed, breathless.
“What happened?” I demanded, a frown creasing my brow, sensing the weight of his urgency.
“The King…he’s changed!”
My heart raced, confusion flooding my mind. “What do you mean?”
“Look at this.” He thrust a sealed envelope into my hands, the royal insignia gleaming ominously in the dim light. I tore it open, the sound of ripping paper echoing in the tense silence, and unfolded the document inside.
It was a royal decree, the ink fresh and bold, signed by the King himself, declaring that the throne was being passed down to his son.
“Son?” My grip on the paper tightened, my heart pounding as I turned my gaze back to the footage.
Austin swallowed hard, his voice trembling. “You’ve met all the King’s children, haven’t you? How did you not recognize him over the past three months, Alpha?”
My mind raced, sifting through memories. I had met the royal heirs, every single one of them—except for this one…
“Bring me the royal family’s bloodline and lineage documents. Now,” I ordered, my voice low and commanding.
“But Alpha, your father has them locked in his study,” Austin hesitated, fear creeping into his voice. “He specifically asked you not to get involved in—”
“Do as I say!” I growled, slamming my hand against the desk with a force that rattled the papers. My voice dropped to a dangerous whisper, “Have my Gamma enter Father’s study. If anyone tries to stop him, eliminate them. I want those documents now.”
“I-I understand!” Austin stammered, quickly dialing my Gamma, who was still at the pack house with access to my father’s office.
My father had deliberately handed the case to Elder Milton, keeping me at bay from the royal records and the marriage documents. He had known I would dig deeper. That was the reason he wanted me uninvolved in the Alpha King’s arranged marriage.
But now, Asher was the Alpha King.
A sense of foreboding washed over me, the same unease that had been coiling tighter in my gut for weeks now.
“He sent them!” Austin exclaimed, holding out his phone, where my Gamma had just forwarded several photos.
I scrolled through the images, my heart pounding, until one caught my eye—the marriage agreement.
I glanced down at the King’s signature and royal seal, then my gaze shifted to the family tree.
Six children. Not five, as the entire world believed.
And beside the name of the Alpha King’s true soulmate stood not the Luna Queen’s name, but that of another she-wolf.
Victoria Langford.
The same surname I had seen in Asher’s falsified record.
I froze, realization crashing over me like a tidal wave. So…he was the son of the King’s soulmate, not his current Luna.
I turned back to the screen, staring at the man the entire realm was now witnessing in his true form, the rightful heir to the Alpha King. His aura had finally been unveiled—a chilling, ashen grey, unlike anything I had ever encountered.
The world itself seemed to bow before him. Wolves everywhere instinctively lowered their heads in reverence.
