Were they acting like she wasn't even there?
So much for the rich socialite and the check. Why wasn't this going according to the script?
Mrs. Amanda was still holding Lemira's hand. "Oh, Lemira, why don't you go wash your face and change? I'll take you shopping. I heard some new collections just came out that would be perfect for a young woman like you."
The excitement in Mrs. Amanda's eyes was impossible to hide. She was itching to experience the thrill of dressing up a daughter.
After all, when she used to dress up Matthew as a child, he'd go from an adorable little cherub one second to a little monkey who'd just rolled in the mud the next. There was absolutely no satisfaction in it.
Lemira hesitated, trying to think of an excuse to decline.
Orion glanced at the time. "She has to get back to campus. Her dorm has a curfew."
"Oh, that's right. I'd forgotten about that. Well, we'll just have to schedule it for another time."
Disappointment filled Mrs. Amanda's eyes.
Lemira could only nod. Ever since hearing Mrs. Amanda personally clarify that there was no engagement between Orion and Sophia, her heart had been in turmoil.
The main reason she had been so angry and broken up with Orion was because of his supposed involvement with Sophia.
But now she knew Sophia had been lying.
Just then, Orion took Lemira's wrist. "I'll take her back."
Mrs. Amanda quickly added, "Don't forget to take all the things I bought for you."
"I'll buy them for her."
Lemira had no chance to respond before Orion whisked her away.
Once they left the room, Lemira instinctively stopped, her expression a little unnatural. "I haven't changed yet."
"I'll have Debby bring you your clothes."
Orion didn't want her spending any more time with his stepmother, afraid she might let something slip.
But Lemira blushed, bending over slightly as she whispered, "I'm not wearing a bra."
She was in a loose-fitting spa robe. How could she walk out like this?

Lemira watched the approaching man, suddenly at a loss for what to do.
Orion stopped in front of her and instinctively reached for her hand, but Lemira pulled away.
She knew that the Orion she had just seen was his true self.
Her withdrawal seemed to freeze the air between them.
Orion's hand was left hanging, a bitter smile touching his lips. "Don't take what my mother said to heart."
Lemira looked up and said deliberately, "Mrs. Amanda wants to make me her goddaughter and offered me a lot of assets. It's something to consider."
She could sense that Mrs. Amanda wasn't trying to humiliate her with money.
Orion's face instantly darkened. "Absolutely not. I don't need another sister."
He needed a wife.
