When They Beg I Rise (Lemira) novel Chapter 662

Lemira looked up as Orion approached her. After a moment's thought, she didn't refuse, and they went to dance.

The steps weren't difficult; she had taken dance lessons before.

Orion looked down at her. "Still feeling wronged?"

"Actually, I don't feel wronged at all. You probably already know that everything that happened at the party was orchestrated by me and Stella. She didn't want to get entangled in an engagement with my brother."

Lemira felt there was no need to hide this from Orion; he would have figured it out anyway.

"I suspected as much. But I didn't expect you to help Stella, especially since she schemed against you once."

"I know. She explained and apologized. She didn't know what the Langston family was really like back then, or what kind of person my brother is. Now that she sees clearly, she wants to cut all ties with him."

She helped Stella partly for her friend, and partly for herself.

After today, Asher would surely despise Evelina, blaming her for ruining the birthday party.

And Lemira was eager to see what Evelina would do next.

Orion glanced at her. "Stella is still a bit too weak to stand up to Mrs. Waverly on her own."

"It'll take time. As long as Stella sees Mrs. Waverly for who she is, she'll find a way to become independent. Look at me—I broke away on my own, and I'm doing just fine."

Lemira met his gaze, and for a moment, her mind drifted. Distracted, she accidentally stepped on his foot.

She blushed and apologized, "Oh, I'm so sorry."

Orion smiled faintly. "My apologies. I was late today. If I had arrived earlier, you wouldn't have been targeted by them."

"I can't rely on you forever, can I?"

"Why not?"

Lemira looked down, avoiding his eyes, and quickly changed the subject. "Since you're here, does that mean your grandmother's condition has stabilized?"

"Yes, it's stable for now."

His tone grew somber at the mention of his grandmother.

A silence fell between them, and neither spoke again.
