When They Beg I Rise (Lemira) novel Chapter 667

Hearing his offer, Lemira shot him a cold look. As expected, Asher was still desperate for the Waverlys' support and resources.

She sat down on the sofa. "And how can I trust that what you're saying is true?"

"What do you mean?"

"Exactly what it sounds like. You claim to have found new leads out of the blue, after years of finding nothing. You really think I'll believe that?"

Lemira had calmed down now.

She suspected Asher's claim of having more leads was likely a lie.

It was probably just a tactic to control her.

Asher's eyes narrowed. "If you're determined to be suspicious, there's nothing I can do. I've been investigating for years; it's only natural that I'd be ahead of you."

"But I don't believe you."

Lemira looked at Asher, her expression making it clear she wouldn't be fooled.

Asher considered this, then sighed. "Lemira, I'm your brother. Finding the truth about our parents' death is something we should be doing together. We have no conflicting interests here. You don't need to be so guarded with me."

"Have you forgotten how many times you've used our parents to threaten me?"

Lemira's face was impassive as she reminded her oh-so-calculating brother of his past manipulations.

Asher coughed into his hand. "That was only because you were being disobedient, I had to..."

But seeing Lemira's expression grow colder, he trailed off. There was no point in lecturing her now.

She was completely unyielding, like a stone.

Finally, Asher adjusted his expression. "Lemira, the Langston family is at a critical juncture. The Waverlys are our biggest investors. If Mrs. Waverly pulls her funding, Langston Group won't last. It will go bankrupt."

"What gave you the courage to continue investing in the AI project? You didn't even win the bid."
