Henrietta didn't mind the silence or feel uncomfortable. If they weren't acquainted, there was no need to force it. However, the man's powerful aura was so overwhelming that it made the spacious elevator feel somewhat constricting.
Just as they were nearing their floor, a pair of hands respectfully presented a gift box to Henrietta. It was quite large, likely a jewelry set.
Henrietta was taken aback for a moment. Then she heard the man's cold, deep voice.
"Happy birthday."
She turned her head. The gift was being offered by his bodyguard, but the words had come from him. It struck her that, aside from her family, household staff, and two best friends, he was the first person to wish her a happy birthday today.
Henrietta's own bodyguard quickly stepped forward, accepting the box with both hands. The two men looked as if they were performing some formal handover ceremony.
Henrietta pressed her lips together slightly. "Thank you."
Yosef simply gave another cool nod in response.
The elevator arrived. She exited first and headed to the private lounge, while Yosef went to the main ballroom.
...
Inside the lounge, Charlotte, Winona, a team of stylists, and several attendants were waiting. Henrietta's parents and her adopted brother, Quinton Sargent, were outside greeting guests.
The moment she walked in, Winona rushed over. "You weren't bullied by that scumbag, were you?"
Henrietta raised an eyebrow. "He's not capable of bullying me."
They pulled her down onto a comfortable sofa. Charlotte asked, "So, when the jerk found out who you really are, did he break down in tears and throw a tantrum?"
Henrietta nodded. "Something along those lines."
Charlotte and Winona burst out laughing. Henrietta lowered her gaze, toying with the glittering diamond bracelet on her wrist. Her voice was cool and detached. "This is just the beginning."
Her two friends giggled, covering their mouths.
