When Two Winters Met (Henrietta and Yosef) novel Chapter 4

He couldn’t wait to see if the saintly goddess would maintain her lofty composure when she was lying beneath him.

Matteo’s Adam’s apple bobbed again. “In that case…”-

“Go take a shower,” Henrietta instructed, her eyes fixed on him.

Matteo found himself in a bind. Artina was still in the closet. What if she burst out while he was in bed with Henrietta?

“Henrietta,” he began, trying to curb his impulsiveness. “Baby, why so… suddenly…”

Henrietta rose to her feet, tilting her head back slightly to look at him. Her eyes were just as stunning as the rest of her.

“After midnight, it will be my birthday and our engagement day,” she said softly. “This solidifies our commitment. I don’t see any problem with giving myself to you. Do you?”

Her voice was as clear and melodious as a spring morning, always calm and unhurried, which only added to her allure.

Matteo was floored. He never thought the impossibly conservative Henrietta would choose this moment to be with him. A flicker of regret crossed his mind. Had he been too hasty with Artina?

“Matteo, what’s wrong?” Henrietta’s voice cut through his thoughts. “Didn’t you… always want me?”

Matteo snapped back to reality, his gaze fixed on the luminous beauty before him. The fire in his belly burned hotter. He did want her. What man wouldn’t want a woman like this?

“No, nothing,” he said quickly. “I’m just… going to the closet to get my clothes. I’ll go shower.”

“Isn’t there a robe in the bathroom?” Henrietta asked.
