Now, probably provoked by Artina, Henrietta was increasing her brother’s funding. This meant she could also…
“Ms. Sargent!” Jolie suddenly exclaimed. “Could… could you let me act in a movie? I want to be an actress, too! I want to be a star!”
The moment she said it, the buzzing conference room fell silent. How to put it… There were countless professionally trained actors with talent and good looks still struggling to land supporting roles. Yet here was Jolie, someone who knew nothing about acting, declaring she wanted to be a star. It was laughable.
A strange silence descended upon the room as everyone stared at Jolie as if she were an idiot. But Jolie didn't notice, her eyes fixed eagerly on Henrietta. In her mind, as long as Henrietta agreed, it was a done deal.
Matteo snapped out of his daze and immediately scolded her. “What do you mean, act? Do you even know how? Can you even deliver your lines properly? Do you know where to find the camera?”
Leon added, “Jolie, stop fooling around. You’re a mother already.”
Jolie had been a terrible student, dropping out of high school before finishing. Soon after, she started dating Leon, got married, and had a child. When she got pregnant, she wasn’t even old enough to legally marry. But back in their rural hometown, that didn’t matter; a wedding banquet made you husband and wife. They only got their official marriage certificate after the child was born, once they were old enough. Given her background, Jolie’s dream of stardom was absurd.
Leon’s comment drew snickers from several of the younger actresses. Jolie, feeling mocked, pinched his arm. “I may have a child, but I’m still young! And it’s your fault I got held back, so you have no right to talk!”
“That’s enough,” Matteo said, his face burning with shame. “This is a company meeting. Have some decency.”
Jolie shot back defiantly, “Bro, we came from the same womb. If you can be a Best Actor, I can’t be that bad! If it weren’t for me working to support you back then…”
