Louie’s lips curled, and only then did he walk up to Anathea. “If you insist on staying the night here at the hospital, you can request a caretaker’s room.”
“Thank you, Dr. Anderson,” Anathea replied courteously.
“What about me? I want to stay, too,” Theo piped up.
However, Louie said ruefully, “I’m afraid there’s only one room left, and it isn’t big enough for you to bunk in. It’s best if you go home and not complicate things here.”
“Fine,” Theo agreed reluctantly. He stood beside Anathea and said softly, “I’ll stay here with you for a bit before I go, then ” Anathea made no reply, her eyes fixed on Adam, who lay unconscious in the hospital room. She grasped her fingers every once in a while.
Louie knew she was worried and needed space. As such, he made no further comment and turned to leave.
He returned to his office shortly after, only to find the door slightly ajar. Amusement flickered across his face as he pushed the door open. Sure enough, a certain someone had made himself comfortable on the office couch.
“Tsk. So, what, you won’t leave until Theo does?” Louie teased sarcastically. “But you do realize that Theo will get to stay by Anathea’s side while you have no choice but to hide in my office, right?”
Gregory said nothing as he pressed his lips into a thin, hard line.
Noting Gregory’s hard expression, Louie strolled to the seat across from him and sat down.
Unafraid of adding fuel to the fire, he continued, “I saw them arrive together, you know, which can only mean they’ve been hanging out this entire time. One can only imagine what a handsome couple like that could be doing together at two in the morning.”
Louie’s mischievous smile deepened. “Also, you know how crazy Theo is over Anathea. Now that they’re engaged, they certainly have the right to get up to all sorts of unspeakable, naughty stuff. That’s only normal, right?
“I also noticed the necklace Anathea was wearing. Did you see how sparkly it was? I have to admit, Theo’s got great taste-”
Before he could finish speaking, a cup sliced through the air and flew toward him like a fierce arrow. If Louie didn’t have lightning reflexes and catch the cup with both hands, it would have hit him in the face. Even more terrifying was the pain that shot through his arms when he caught the cup.
“Gregory!” He set the offensive cup on the table and snapped, “Were you trying to kill me?”
“You were spewing bullshit.”
“I was not!” Louie argued. “I was stating facts! Anathea and Theo left the banquet together. She got into his car, and there’s no telling where they went. They were gone for long enough to get up to plenty of nonsense, unspeakable or not!”
Gregory’s gaze darkened dangerously. “Her clothes were neat, her hair was in place, her makeup looked untouched, and not even her lipstick was smudged.”
Louie went still. The corner of his mouth twitched. “What, did you have binoculars installed in your eyes or something?”
How else would Gregory have noticed such tiny details? It only showed that he’d been staring at Anathea from the moment she arrived. Everything about her was so deeply engraved in his heart that he didn’t miss anything.
Louie could even picture Gregory furtively checking out every part of Anathea. He shuddered at the imagery and grimaced.” You’re a bona fide creep, you know that?”
“What’s wrong with staring at my own wife?” Gregory glared at Louie.
“Ex–wife,” Louie corrected, opening his thermoflask and sipping his floral tea. “You’re divorced, remember?”

“So what?” Gregory drawled. “There’s no law that states I can’t remarry her.”
