“Keep it on, Annie.” Gregory felt his breath was coming up short. He added hoarsely, “Don’t wear someone
s jacket.”
Mat
Gregory had watched Theo drape the jacket over Anathea and had een brooding over it since. He hadn’t looke bothered by it, but in truth, he was dying of jealousy. He wanted to claim every part of Anathea for himself, and he wouldn’t stand for anyone approaching or touching her.
Gregory was confident that if he kept pursuing Anathea, he would he day finally win his way back into her heart.
But Theo just had to barge into the picture and ruin Gregory’s plans, prompting a sense of urgency in him and driving him mad! Anathea studied the hard set of Gregory’s jaw and his restraint, recalling what Xander told her before. She felt like her heart was caught in a spiderweb; the harder she tried to untangle the mess of silvery threads, the less she knew how.
“Anathea.”
At that moment, Theo’s voice rang out, snapping Anathea out of her thoughts. He carried the breakfast he’d lined up to buy for Anathea in one hand and a piping hot latte in the other.
Gregory’s dark eyes grew frosty, and his expression hardened. He instinctively reached for Anathea’s hand to grip it tightly, but she stepped away and brushed past him to get to Theo.
Gregory went rigid.
Theo’s lips curled as he smoothly took the bottled water from Anathea and handed her the cup of latte. He had her hold the cup with both hands to warm herself up. “Here, drink it while it’s hot. It should warm your stomach.”
The cup was just the right temperature, and it warmed Anathea’s bones as she held it in both hands, feeling the chill leave her body.
Theo added gently, “Sit down and have your breakfast. I’ll be with you in just a moment.”
She nodded and cast a sidelong glance at Gregory, her expression impassive. But to Gregory, she might as well have been sneering at him.
Gritting his teeth, Gregory leveled a long, hard look at Anathea. It wasn’t until she’d retreated further down the corridor that he looked away and fixed his gaze on Theo, only to realize he was staring at her too.
Gregory stepped to the side so that he stood before Theo, his towering build blocking the latter’s line of sight.
Only then did Theo slowly withdraw his gaze. He picked up his jacket, which lay discarded on the side of the corridor, and wrapped his arms around it. He then tossed the bottled water Gregory had bought Anathea back at Gregory.
“You have lousy sportsmanship, Gregory,” Theo pointed out, referring to the fact that Gregory had thrown Theo’s jacket aside and given his own to Anathea.
“So what? Every part of her is mine,” Gregory replied coldly, his tone unyielding.
“Such baseless confidence.” Theo snorted. “You and Anathea are divorced. She doesn’t belong to you anymore.”
“Doesn’t mean she’ll accept you either.” Gregory had seen Anathea’s obvious unease whenever Theo approached her. It was proof that she had never accepted Theo as a romantic interest.
Theo froze for a moment but recovered quickly enough to retort, “What does it matter? We’re engaged. Even if she doesn’t accept me now, as long as I keep pursuing her and being kind to her, she’ll be moved by my dedication someday.
“As for you, stop putting yourself on a pedestal now that you’ve decided to let her go. You’ve already lost all your privileges.”
He marched up to Gregory. Even though Gregory was intimidating and towered over him by an inch, he still lifted his gaze to the
latter’s.
With newfound resolve, he said, “Listen to me very carefully, Gregory–I like Anathea, and it serves you right to lose her after
