As they grew up and she saw her parents' favoritism more clearly, Hale had not only taken her side but had also gone out of his way to show her extra affection.
Liliana couldn't imagine a life without Hale. It would be like the last bit of color draining from her world.
Her trembling hand grasped Hale's, and a large tear fell onto the white sheet.
"Tell me, how can I save you? Do you really want to leave your sister all alone?"
*Beep—*
A cold, sharp sound suddenly came from one of the machines.
Leroy, who had been recording data, paused and immediately looked at Hale. "Keep going, keep going."
"Okay." Liliana didn't understand what the changing symbols on the machine meant.
She instinctively followed Leroy's instructions, continuing to whisper in Hale's ear.
After about ten minutes, Leroy put his pen away. "That's enough for now. He'll be under observation here for another two hours. You can go out and get some rest."
"Is he going to be okay?" Liliana straightened up, her glistening eyes filled with hope as she looked at Leroy.
Leroy nodded, studying her. "For now, it looks like his life is saved. You're his sister. Are you closer to him than his parents are?"
Liliana couldn't speak for Hale about his relationship with Chuck and Vida.
She simply said, "We are very close."
"His case is quite complex. If possible, I'd like you to cooperate with me on his psychological treatment," Leroy said. One of his experiments abroad had shown that family involvement in therapy could significantly improve outcomes.
"Could we… do the therapy at night?" Liliana asked instinctively.
After all, she had to work during the day.
But then she remembered that doctors usually went home in the evening.
"Of course," Leroy said, looking thrilled. "Psychological counseling sessions every evening from eight to ten. You come in then."
This way, he could stay up late, sleep during the day, and absorb the ‘celestial essence of the medical world' in the quiet of the night!
Liliana was surprised for a moment, then nodded as she walked toward him. "If you're working overtime for his treatment, will you charge us an overtime fee?"
