NICOLE
I’m sprawled on the couch as Roman buttons up his shirt.
My center is still stinging from the orgasm I had, but watching him get dressed makes me want him all over again, which is sick, considering how this should have never happened in the first place.
But here we are.
Roman has promised not to push me away, and all that’s left for me to do is figure out whether or not he’ll keep his promise.
“You coming back home?” he asks.
Home. For some reason, my heart skips a beat when he mentions the flat he bought for me. “No, I think I’ll spend some time here.”
He nods, and I see relief written all over his face. I genuinely want to spend some time with Mason, but I also don’t want my brother to see me for what l am-someone who will always choose Roman, no matter what.
I turn to putty in his hands. There’s no way around it.
“We’ll figure this out,” he mentions like he can read my thoughts. His eyes meet mine and he smiles a little while his expression softens. “Everything will be okay.””You remember your promise?”
“I’d never forget it.” He leans toward me to brush his lips against mine. “I’ll figure something out. In the meantime, l think it’d be safer for you to stay here and we’ll see each other whenever we can.”
We can start there. “Okay.”
He straightens his spine, his gaze still lingering on my face. Suddenly, he draws his brows together then says, ” You mentioned having a terrible day. What happened?”
I part my lips, ready to tell him everything, but then I dęcide against it. I don’t even know if l’Il talk to Mason about it. Until then, it would be best if I don’t bring it up. ” It’s nothing important. I’ll tell you about it later.”
Roman immediately looks concerned. “Was it Sebastian?
Does it have something to do with him?”
“No,” I say quickly.
He narrows his eyes at me. “I don’t want you around him anymore, Nikki.”
“I went to see Katie, my mother’s old friend, in the hospital and he was there. I was distraught and he took me to have a coffee so I could calm down. That was about it, Roman.
Nothing happened, and it honestly disgusts me that you think I’d-”
“I didn’t think you did,” he corrects. “I just can’t stand the thought of you hanging around someone who knows your body the way I do. He’ll never lay a finger on you again.
When he gets this jealous and possessive…it might be a total red flag, but it turns me on. I smile slyly at him, forgetting my troubles, and then I walk him to the door.
His hand is on my lower back, caressing me. “You’re sure you’re okay? There’s nothing I can do?”
“No, I’m fine,” I assure him. “It’s something I have to figure out for myself.”
“I don’t like the sound of that, Nikki.”
“Well, you’re going to have to,” I shrug. “And when you want to stop by, call me beforehand.”
He smirks. “We’re back to sneaking around because of. your brother, huh?”
“Whose fault is that, I wonder?”
“Mm…I’m wondering, too.”
