Roman
I stop by the mansion, which is where I’ve dumped the mother of my child
There’s no way in hell I would ever take her to the penthouse, not when that’s the only place where I’ll have a chance to spend time with Nikki, like we did yesterday.
I hardly visit the mansion. Yes, she intends for us to live together, but I’m entitled to being a busy man, aren’t I?
Besides, there were no terms on the contract that specified how long I’m supposed to spend time with her.
Her lawyer’s fault. Not mine.
AlL came to do is see how she’s settling in and remind my employees to keep an eye on her every move. She already knows that she’s not allowed to receive visitors. I don’t care if it’s her damn mother-nobody’s allowed to step foot in here because though I have a contract thats meant to keep her mouth shut, other people don’t.
I don’t want any trouble with her whatsoever. I agreed to this madness so I could be free later on.
I have no intention of playing house with a woman I barely know and don’t want to know.
After my conversation with the housekeeper, I start to leave, but of course, Emeralda sees me and tries to stopme right as I reach the door. Exasperated, I turn to face her and see her smiling at me with her hands over her belly, which is something she always does when she’s trying to remind me that she’s pregnant.
“Hi, Roman.”
“I have to go.”
“Wait, please,” she pleads as she hurries after me. I’m almost at the car parked out front when she reaches my side and grabs my arm to stop me. “Please. Just stay a little longer. We haven’t even had a chance to talk after the meeting with our lawyers. Remember what you promised me!”
* “I didn’t promise you anything,” I remind her. “We have a contract in place. You wanted to live with me? Well, youll have to get used to my schedule. Don’t say you weren’t warned.”
“You’re being purposely cruel!” she yells. “You don’t want to spend time with me and you’re going to do everything in your power to stay away. That’s not the agreement!”
“You should’ve put up better terms, then,” I remark as | get in the car and slam the door.
Esmeralda punches the window with her fists. I stare at her, alarmed. Her eyes are narrowed to slits when she practically hisses, “If you’re not going to keep your promises, then what’s the point of me doing the same?”I can’t take it. I open the door and step out of my car to face her. “If you don’t, then you’ll have to face serious legal consequences. Remember? You do something ridiculous that alarms the media that you’re carrying my child and I won’t take care of you or this baby I never wanted.”
“You won’t seriously go through with it.”
“Try me.”
I slide back into my seat and start the car. She practically wails and slaps the window again. “This baby is yours!
How can you be so cold and cruel? How can you say such…
Roman!”
I drive toward the gate, then speed down the road to get as far away from this place as possible. Jesus. I even have the urge to call Nikki so i can erase this awful memory from my mind, but she’ll pick up on my stress and frustration, and I don’t want to have to lie to her again.
