Wild Nights With My Brother’s Ex-Best Friend novel Chapter 137

NICOLE

Angus completely disregards my urgency to find my brother and Roman, who are still back at the hotel where masked men are shooting at people.

“I don’t understand!” I exclaim. I’m hysterical and I have zero intentions of calming down. How could I even calm down? They’re still back there, and I’m here, in a car headed to heaven-knows-where. “Why can’t we go back for them? You don’t care about them, but I do!”

Angus is smiling softly and his reaction to my despair truly frustrates me. “Don’t worry, Nicole. Soon, you’ll understand everything that’s happening.”

I scoff. I can’t believe what he’s saying to me. “What if they get shot or hurt in some way? You can’t control what happens!”

“What if I can?” he shoots back. Then, he sits and watches me, waiting for a reaction. “Now you have nothing to say?”

Just how dangerous is Angus? “You mean to tell me that you’re the one who’s behind the shooting?”

I expect him to answer this question, but he doesn’t. Not right away, at least. Instead, he tells me, “I’d like to share with you how I expected this evening to turn out, Nicole.

Can I do that? I intended to trap you. Yes, trap you. I planned this evening meticulously, I thought about everydetail and all possible outcomes.

“Yes, I planned the shooting. Those men work for me, and they know-who to shoot. They’re aware of who’s a target and who isn’t, so rest assured. For now, they’re safe.

Especially your brother.”

His mentioning Mason really pisses me off. “What do you mean by that? What does Mason have to do with this?

Why would he ever be a target to begin with?”

“It’s simple—I was going to capture Mason and later on act like I was saving him in exchange for your services, Nicole. I want you to work for me and take my last name.

Well, it would’ve only been possible to save your brother if you did what I asked of you. Naturally, you would never know I was behind the whole thing.”

His words sicken me. For several moments, all I can do is stare at him. He doesn’t even look my way. His eyes are just straight ahead and the smile hasn’t left his lips.

I’m in disbelief.

Angus continues before I have the chance to say anything,

“But now, I don’t need your brother anywhere. Going down that route would’ve been too exhausting anyway. Now, I can just use Roman.”

“Roman?” I echo loudly. “What’re you talking about? You can’t hurt him!”

“I told you earlier: I could have and should’ve hurt Romanfor meddling in affairs that don’t concern him. He should’ve stayed in his lane and stayed married to Carmen Lowett. But instead, he forced my hand. Can’t you see that? You understood this back then.”

“You’re sick!” I yell. “I can’t let you hurt him! I won’t!”

Angus turns in his seat to look at me. He has one hand on his thigh. “I’m glad you mentioned that, because there is something you can do for him, Nicole. You can save him and spare him from a tragic death. You want Roman to Live? Then you have the perfect opportunity now!”

I wrap my arms around myself, feeling a cage forming all around me. My breaths are all shallow and fear forms a hard knot in the pit of my stomach. Angus’s words swirl around in my mind, making me more and more afraid of what the future holds for me.

“See why I said we were in for an unforgettable night? | told you-the coincidences were all so big. Everything turned out well and in my favor.”

I say nothing else as we reach another hotel. It’s just me and him. I den’t know where the rest of his family is. When we were leaving the hotel after the shooting began, Angus took hold of my arm and started dragging me toward the exit. But the exit was a secret door I hadn’t noticed in the ballroom.
