Wild Nights With My Brother’s Ex-Best Friend novel Chapter 139

ROMAN

I park the car outside my house and stare at it.

Fuck, it looks so different from when Nikki and I were here the last time. This is ridiculous. Maybe I should never have brought Emeralda here, but it’s only five months, and anyway, where else would I take her? This place is the safest one I could think of.

Sure, Nikki knows about it, but she would never come here.

Not on her own, at least.

I stride into the building, crossing the parlor on my way to the living area. My intention is to find my housekeeper and have her call Emeralda so we can get this conversation off the table, but I find Emeralda lounging on one of the couches and when she hears me approach, she rises.

“Where have you been?”

I frown and can’t help the surge of anger that courses through my veins and fills my mind. “In case you haven’t noticed, I’m not married to you, so I don’t want to hear you ask me that again. Are we understood?”

Emeralda steps forward. There’s a crazy look in her eyes.” You made me a promise and I expect you to keep it! If you’re not going to agree to what’s in the contract, thenwhy should I? Why should I keep my mouth shut?”

I step toward her and she takes several steps back. ” already told you that I agreed to spend time with you by mouth and that nothing is written in the contract. That was your fault, not mine. So, don’t waste your time calling my lawyer and trying to get me down here because it won’t work.

“And if you dare to open your mouth, you’re going to face the legal consequences. Remember those? They were actually in the contract. I won’t be held responsible for the child you’re carrying, and you won’t receive the monthly allowance we agreed upon!”

Tears snake down her cheeks and she doesn’t wipe them away. I shake my head at her and fill the silence by asking,

“Why the hell are you pretending that this isn’t about money? You’re getting what you want. I’ll support you until this child is eighteen. What the fuck is your problem?

“I told you!” she yells, like a damned maniac. “I WANT YOU!

“You can’t have me; I told you that, too.”

“No!” she rages, stepping toward me. “That’s not what we agreed on! You’re…you’re a damned liar! You lied to me about everything! I trusted you to keep your word!”

“You should’ve taken your lawyer’s advice. This is the last time you’ll see me. If you dare to make a scene, I’ll makeyou pay for it.”

As I head toward the exit, I ask myself if it wouldn’t be easier if Tjust told Nikki about this shit so I can get it done and over with. I’m tired of living this way. This fear is eating me alive. Am I supposed to panic every time this lunatic threatens to run her mouth?

Maybe Nikki would forgive me. Our love is real, and it’s not like I cheated on her.

So, maybe I should just open my mouth and tell her. Get rid of this anxiety that’s been a part of my life since l found out about this whole thing.
