Wild Nights With My Brother’s Ex-Best Friend novel Chapter 152

NICOLE

I’m so distracted by this entire situation that I end up forgetting the Johnson file on my nightstand, but I can’t drive back to the apartment now and grab it.

I’ll just do it before I meet Sebastian for lunch, which is what we usually do.

To be honest, I’m not looking forward to it at all. I still haven’t figured out what to say to him, so my mind is a mess and I’m thinking of ditching lunch, but that would be top rude.

Sebastian has really been there for me these days, so treating him badly just because he said something | didn’t want to hear sounds…bad from my part.

I get started on what I have to do, but my concentration is broken when Leonardo throws my door open and strides into my office carrying two boxes, one on top of the other.

I rarely see him around here but when I do, things never end well.

He hates me and never bothers to hide it.

I’m not his number one fan either.

“Work on this and have it ready by the end of the week,” is all he says before dumping the boxes on my table, causing a few things to fall over the sides.”There’s a nicer way to talk to people, you know?” I say ta his back. “And good morning at that!”

Leonardo halts before he walks out the door. He throws me a look filled with poison over his broad shoulder, then starts walking toward my desk again. “Yes, you’re right.

There is a better way of talking to people. But you want to hear the truth? T don’t see a person when Ilook at you. I see a money-hungry animal who thinks it has a place among us civilized folk. It disgusts me.”

“I’m not here because I want to be here, so you’re not as smart as you think you are,” I retort. “I’d leave this place in a heartbeat if I had the guarantee that Angus wouldn’t hurt the people I love!”

Leonardo’s lips curve into a smile. “Sure. Keep fooling me, yourself, and everyone around you. At the end of the day, the truth will be revealed and we’ll all see who you truly are.”

I breathe a lot easier when he’s gone, but I feel desperate when I look at the pile of work in front of me. There’s no way they expect me to finish analyzing all these files by the end of the week.

And I still have to fetch the one I forgot at home.

Time flies by too quickly and I can barely make any progress. I have to stop by the apartment to grab the file, and then I’ll head to lunch with Sebastian. I might be a few minutes late, but I’ll probably make it.And then…’Il figure out what to do when I get there.

I’m literally charging up the stairs, so quickly that my quadriceps are burning. I make it, though, sweating and breathing harshly. Igo to unlock the apartment door, finding it strange that it’s unlocked at this time since Mason’s at work.

Alarmed, I push the door open, and my heart nearty jumps out of my chest when I see Haley seated on the couch with a bowl of cereal in her hand.

Her eyes widen when she sees me. I step forward and yell,

“WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE!?”

“You need to calm down, Nicole,” she says calmly before shoving a spoonful of cereal into her mouth. “I don’t think you understand what’s happening here.”

“What’s there to understand, you psycho!? I told you l’a call the police the next time-”

The words die on my tongue when I see Mason from the corner of my eye, walking into the kitchen with a towel wrapped around his waist. We make eye contact and I look away immediately, putting two and two together.

Haley is on the couch, wearing just a large t-shirt with nothing underneath, looking so comfortable and smug.

My brother, on the other hand, looks guilty.
