ROMAN
When my porter calls me asking if a woman named Laura can come up, I’m shocked.
wasn’t expecting her to reach out so soon.
I have a choice to make the right decision, but the truth is that I’m so damned drunk still, and I’m mad at Nikki. Yeah, mad. I behaved in a disgusting way, that’s true. I kept things from her. I lied. She had to find out about Esmeralda in the worst way possible.
But she’s seeing someone else and that blinds me completely. Every time I think about her and Sebastian, this darkness floods my mind and makes me capable of doing anything.
I could kill.
Or do something that lands me right in jail.
I have no intentions of sleeping with Laura. What we had was in the past and though she’s an attractive woman, don’t have it in me to get involved with anyone else.
Maybe all I want is a chance to talk to someone after the shitty month I had.
When I open the door for her, she’s wearing a camel-colored trench coat and ridiculous high heels. The smile she gives me lets me know that she has terrible intentions.”I brought some wine,” she says, holding the bottle up.
“You didn’t have to.’
“Why not?” she asks as she inches closer to me. Her eyes are on my lips, and I can smell her perfume. French.
Expensive. “Do you think you’re the only one who can bring something to the table?”
“Is this your way of asserting dominance, then? Bringing some wine?”
“Sure,” she says, slipping past me and making her way to my kitchen. “This place is something else, Roman. Who would’ve thought, huh?”
I follow her. “I thought you wanted me to call you.”
“Well, I decided I was tired of waiting,” she claims before throwing me a flirty look over her shoulder. “I’ve always been a woman who takes what she wants. From anyone.”
“Yeah?” I tilt hy head to the side. “What if the other party isn’t interested?”
Laura chuckles. “Why wouldn’t they be?”
When I don’t answer her, she walks slowly toward me, her eyes narrowed to slits and her lips pouty. “Roman… we’ve always had great chemistry. Are you playing hard to get now? You? Everyone knows your reputation.”
“I haven’t been that man in a while.””That’s a lie,” she claims as she places her hands on my shoulders. I grab both her wrists gently to stop her and she gives me a surprised look. “Come on, Roman. You don’t know how much I’ve been thinking about you since we parted ways at that bar.”
“I’m sorry you came all the way here expecting something, Laura, but this can’t happen.”
Laura stares at me in disbelief for a few seconds, and then she smiles like she understands the rules of the game we’re playing. “I see. Of course.”
With no warning at all, she removes her trench coat, standing before me in just a red babydoll and a thong. I keep my eyes on her face, determined not to look elsewhere. Laura places a hand on her hip, then narrows her eyes at me.
“Hm. Don’t tell me you’re not tempted to look.”
“I’m not.”
“Maybe what we need is to change the scenery, then.”
