ROMAN
I find myself in the same bar I told myself I’d never get close to with a beer in frent of me.
My head’s pounding. I’m so pissed off that my breaths are all labored. I think about Sebastian Crowe and my sole desire is to kill him. By dropping the lawsuit, he managed to convince my girl that he’s the nice guy and I’m the boar for causing a scene about nothing.
I punched him first, yet he’s the all-merciful and civilized gentleman who dropped the lawsuit, not wanting to cause trouble.
Give me a fucking break.
Someone slaps my back and sits down beside me. I don’t have to look to know that it’s Mason. I called him and asked him to meet me here. I know I need someone to talk to, and who else could it be?
Mason lets out a sigh and orders a beer before saying anything. Once it’s placed right in front of him, he smacks his lips. “Mm. Now we can talk. Just what kind of shit are you in right now?”
“I’m drowning in it.”
“Yeah? What did you do?”
“This time? Nothing.””It’s all Nicole’s fault, then?”
“Something like that.”
Mason lets out a chortle. “Why do I doubt that?”
I shoot him a look. “Need I remind you that you’re here to offer me emotional support?”
“Fuck that. That’s what the beer’s for. Now, honestly. What did you do?”
I let out a sigh and take another deep gulp of beer. I briefly explain what happened, and Mason listens without commenting. Once I get all the words out, in their exact order, I realize that | let jealousy get the best of me before Mason even says a thing.
yelled at her.
I behaved like an ass.
“Roman,” Mason begins, “you’re a smart guy, right?! mean, you made millions, right? No, billions? Don’t tell me you’re this stupid?”
I don’t take his words to heart at all. Jealousy blinds me, and when it comes to Nikki, I just lose my mind. I must’ve messed things up. Big time.
I don’t know if we’ll be able to come back from this.
“Yeah, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to kill that guy for getting close to her,” I say bitterly. “I want to grind thatpathetic face of his to dust beneath my feet. I want to hear the sound of his flesh coming apart. I mean it, Mason. I’ve never hated anyone more than I hate that guy.”
“Sounds erotic. You want him or what?”
I burst out laughing at this. “Fuck off.”
“Want my advice? Forget that guy. Trust me. If you fight him, it’ll only be worse and Nicole will resent you more for it. She clearly has a high opinion of the guy.”
“I’m not sure why. He humiliated her in front of his family,
“I say resentfully. “He’s a weak shit. He’s never been man enough for her. I don’t understand what her problem is.
Why can’t she stay away from him? Is she still in love with him or what?”
“Nope. I know my sister well. If she’s still trying with you, especially after the shit you pulled, then you still have a chance. You’re pushing it, though. Ignore that gold-digger. Let her die, who the fuck cares?”
“She’s pregnant,” I point out. “You understand this better than anyone else.”
“Yeah, but what about Nikki? Are you prepared to lose her? Because that’s what will happen if you keep entertaining that whore, you know? And that’s what she wants.”
Though I’m finding this conversation reassuring, I’m sick of all the attention being on me and my mistakes. So, Ichange the subject swiftly. “You’re one to talk, Mr. I-Know-My-Sister-Very-Well.”
