Keira only regained some strength in the wee hours of the following morning. She went to the hospital alone to have her wounds tended to.
The doctor was alarmed by her state, and it took three hours to have her wounds disinfected and bandaged. She broke out in a cold sweat and snapped a few fingers as she rode out the pain. Then, she spent two days at the hospital, and her wounds slowly scabbed over.
During that time, Kimberly made sure to send her provocative messages daily.
"Mom and Dad have agreed to turn your room into a nursery and kids' room. Once Vincent and I have children, they'll stay in that room whenever we're home. When are you going to move your trash out?
"Vincent took me to pick out a wedding dress today. I thought that these few were nice, and he bought them all. My feet hurt after trying on so many shoes, and his heart ached so badly for me. He even massaged them for me."
Keira was numb as she looked at the photos of Vincent looking tenderly at Kimberly. She didn't reply to any of the messages.
When she was well enough to head home, she did so and started packing her things. Aside from some necessities, she threw everything else out, leaving nothing behind.
When the butler saw this, he approached her and said tentatively, "Ms. Kimberly means to have you move into the basement, Ms. Keira. The lighting isn't good there, but there's plenty of space. You don't have to throw these things away."
Keira looked around the empty room and said calmly, "It's fine. I don't need any of these things, so I might as well just throw them out. I'm leaving the country soon and won't ever return."
The butler was surprised by that. "You're not coming back after going abroad?"
Just then, Vincent entered the house. "Who's not coming back after going abroad?"
The butler was about to answer him when Kimberly emerged from her room. "Why are you here so early? I'm not done with my makeup!"
"Ms. Kimberly has been spoiled while growing up, so she's a little arrogant. Once she marries Mr. Slater, she will only be even more so, judging by how much he loves her. She's so lucky!"
"I just feel bad for Ms. Keira. It's sad enough that she's always neglected, yet she had to fall for someone who's destined to be her brother-in-law. She and Ms. Kimberly are sisters, so why is she so unfortunate?"
Keira lowered her gaze when she heard them through the door. In the past, she'd also questioned the heavens countless times. Why had they treated her like this?
But after dying once, she'd understood something. If she needed to fight for something, then it wasn't meant to be hers. It was the same whether in terms of family or a relationship.
And that was why she no longer wished to have those things. All she wanted was to get away so she wouldn't be stuck in this hell anymore.
