99 Times for Alpha’s Bestie novel Chapter 144

At the sight of him, the lead officer released my wrist as though shocked by electricity, rubbing his hands. nervously while his eyes darted around in panic.

The officers may be posted in Calgary, but there wasn’t a shifter division officer in this country who didn’t know who Alpha Lucien Thorne is.

“This is impossible! Jack said she was mated to the Sterling heir. Why is the Alpha of the Crown of Thornes here?” Susie clutched Solomon’s sleeve, shrinking behind him.

*Jack must have tricked us, trying to steal our inheritance by setting us up. The Thorne family in Calgary is a bad omen.” Solomon’s voice shook so badly he didn’t dare lift his head.

He and Susie stumbled backward.

“Cowards!” Sullivan swallowed his fear and forced himself to raise his voice, desperate to save face. “So what if he’s from the Thorne pack? No matter how powerful, he holds no connections here. Calgary belongs to the Reese family! We have more power and connections here than any Thorne could dream of.

We don’t need a pack when we finance half the city!”

I lifted my gaze, staring blankly at the figure who had appeared out of nowhere.

That brief commotion over the phone had made him race here without hesitation.

Alongside shock, an indescribable warmth and ache surged into my chest.

Those forcing me to the brink were my own kin by blood. Yet the one who came for me now was an outsider who had every reason to stand apart.

The contrast struck my heart like a tidal wave, stirring unfamiliar ripples deep inside me.

Then Lucien’s arm swept out, pulling me firmly to his side with a strong, decisive motion.

Without looking back, he extended his other arm, dragging Liyah and Carson behind him as well.

The movement was seamless, authoritative, and brimming with unmistakable protection.

“You-what are you-” Sullivan’s outraged protest barely left his lips.

Before he could finish, Lucien’s Elite warriors moved like lightning, producing not firearms but cold metal sprayers and sanitation gear.

Shhh-

Pungent white disinfectant mist burst forth in a storm, leaving no time for anyone to react.

The acrid chemical stench exploded through the air, filling every breath.

Caught off guard, my cousins and the officers were drenched head to toe, their faces and eyes stung so badly they couldn’t even open them.

Harsh coughs erupted everywhere, and their swagger collapsed in an instant, leaving only chaos, cursing, and scrambling.

The strong scent of mint filled the air before us. Lucien made sure to keep Liyah and Carson further back.

Everyone knows mint deters dogs, and it also irritates wolves’ senses. It was clever on Lucien’s part.

“Are you still not leaving?” Lucien kept both hands in his pockets, as if he were idly watching a farce. His lips curved slightly, his voice low and laced with mockery. “Stay any longer, and I can’t promise what’s in their tanks is just minty disinfectant. Gas may also be an option.”

“Alpha Thorne! You-you’re out of line! We’re carrying out our official duties!”

The lead officer, streaming tears and mucus from the fumes, shouted hoarsely in a last-ditch effort to hold onto his dignity.

“Official duties? Is that so?” Lucien’s mouth curved in open disdain. One hand remained lazily in his pocket as his gaze sliced toward his men. “In that case, you do your job, and I disinfect. Tell me, officer-did I break any laws?”

Before the words faded, the Elite warriors, as if on cue, intensified their sprays.

The disinfectant shot out thicker and stronger, more like high-pressure hoses than mist.

Liyah and Carson moved to the open window, allowing their wolves to breathe fresh air.

Within seconds of the second spraying, my cousins and the officers were blasted back across the threshold, soaked from head to toe. Water dripped off them in streams, leaving them looking like drowned rats, and their wolves receded for safety.

“Pfft-” Liyah couldn’t hold it in anymore. She clapped her hands and burst out laughing. “Alpha, you’re amazing! That move was genius!”

“Alpha Thorne is brilliant! This house has been empty for so long-it needed a good disinfecting, to clear out all the pests making a nuisance of themselves!” Carson quickly followed.

Watching the enemies scatter in soaked humiliation, I felt the heavy shadows in my chest finally lift.

“Lucien Thorne! You wait! The Reese family will settle this score with you!” Susie hissed.

“Don’t leave Calgary if you’ve got the balls to stay and face our retribution for this interference! This is our city!” Solomon yelled through his struggles for breath.

Coughing and choking, my cousins staggered backward through the spray, spitting out threats that rang hollow in their desperation, before disappearing in disgrace.

The officers, faces dark with humiliation, said nothing as they rushed into their vehicles and sped away from the place that had stripped them of all authority.
