A Reborn Bride Pearl Emerging from Dust novel Chapter 867

“He’s all yours now,” Calliope told Mavis and Portia, “I’ll take him to the hospital.”

“Alright,” Mavis nodded.

Portia nodded too.

Calliope glanced at Ulysses. After a split second of hesitation, she scooped him up in her arms like it was nothing.

Ulysses let out a startled yelp, momentarily forgetting all about the pain in his stomach.

Without another word, Calliope bolted out the door, still carrying him.

She put Ulysses in the car and sped off toward the hospital.

Luckily, it wasn’t too far. They got there fast.

As soon as they arrived, the ER staff rushed Ulysses into a treatment room. The wound hadn’t hit any vital organs, but it was deep. After they stitched him up, he was sent to a hospital room to rest.

Calliope stayed with him, making a few calls to Portia and Mavis.

She finally let out a sigh of relief after hearing the guy had been caught by the police.

Not long after, Portia and Mavis showed up at the hospital, trailing a couple of cops behind them.

The cops took statements from Ulysses and Calliope.

“So, who was that guy?” Calliope asked, frowning. “Felt like he was coming straight for me.”

“We’re still investigating,” one officer replied. “He’s a recently released convict. At the moment, we think it might’ve been just some random act of revenge against society.”

“Of course, we’ll look into it more thoroughly. We’ll let you know when we have answers.”

Calliope nodded. “Alright.”

After the officers left, Ulysses turned to Calliope. “Callie, I’m fine now. You guys can go. Thanks for bringing me in.”

Zelda lunged, hand raised, ready to slap Calliope across the face.

But just then, Mavis stepped out of the hospital room, blocking Zelda and grabbing her wrist in a steely grip. Mavis’ eyes flashed with cold fury.

“What do you think you’re doing?” she asked icily.

“What do you think? I’m going to hit her!” Zelda snapped. “She’s the reason my son got hurt! Haven’t you done enough to the Jewell family, Calliope? Our company went bankrupt, we’re drowning in debt, and now this!”

She glared at Calliope, her voice rising. “People curse us everywhere we go. We can’t even show our faces anymore. What more do you want from us?”

“She didn’t hurt your son—he jumped in front of that knife himself.” Portia’s voice was sharp and cold. “Trust me, Callie doesn’t need anybody to shield her. She could’ve dodged it easily.”

“Your son just wanted to play hero for no reason!”

“Zelda, stop blaming Callie for all your problems,” Mavis added, her grip tightening on Zelda’s wrist until Zelda winced. “You ever think maybe you should take a look in the mirror for once?”
