"I’ll get better by the time I wake up," Penny said softly and Hughes who couldn’t control herself broke down in tears.

Her Miss Penny was too innocent to go through all of these. She wanted to help, but that would be going against her master Dewitt. She had promised to take good care of his son no matter what.

But what about his grandson?

Dewitt was a good man. Would he be in support of Osvaldo killing his child?

"What’s wrong Hughes? Why are you crying?" Penny asked a little shocked herself. Hughes was always the tough one; she seen her housekeeper this vulnerable before.

"Nothing miss Penny. I was just wondering if you’d be happy knowing your sickness might actually be good." Penny frowned wondering what this woman was talking about now.

Whenever has illness been a good thing? It’s taken many lives and would take more.

"Sickness is not a good thing Hughes," Penny said shaking her head.

"Most are. Like the little fever we get when pregnant. Do you ever want to be pregnant Miss Penny?" She asked the question she dreaded the most. It would be understandable if Penny didn’t want a child now. Then maybe, she wouldn’t need to bother about her anymore.

"I would love to carry my children someday. Who do you think they’d look like Hughes? I or your master?" Penny laughed but then frowned almost immediately.

She shouldn’t have such thoughts knowing her relationship with Osvaldo may not last long.

Children were totally out of the picture in their relationship.

"How about now Miss Penny?"

"Why do you ask?" Penny asked wondering why he housekeeper was suddenly interested in that.

"Master Osvaldo has a thing for children and has prepared drugs to be rid of his seed in you." Hughes pointed at the four jars of different colored new herbs on the table. Osvaldo hadn’t gotten the time to take them away because he got called.

"T... That’s not true." Penny shook her head. Osvaldo loved her. He said so countless times. He’s saved her countless times. He’s done nothing but care for her.

Even while the world rejected her, he had been her saviour. Why would he want to harm her?

"But it’s true Miss Penny. He wants to kill the child and destroy your womb." Hughes continued.

"All the tea he’s made over the week, a drug had been added to harm the child but I threw them away and made new tea. I’m sorry I couldn’t make any tea as sweet as master’s." Hughes said, eyes still shifting to the door and back.

"What are you saying, Hughes?" Penny whispered not wanting to listen anymore. She couldn’t believe Hughes would say such to her.

"Please Miss Penny believe me when I tell you I’m not lying. I would never lie to you. Master has found out about the teas I threw away and they did this to me." Hughes tucked her hair to the back of her ear and the large stitched mark came into view for Penny’s eyes to go wide.

Penny’s hands suddenly covered her lips stopping herself from screaming. She couldn’t believe it.

"Master warned me that if I told you, I would be dead," Hughes said.

"So why did you tell me?" The tears finally fell. This was too much for her to take. Penny felt faint.

"I don’t care if I die after today, Miss Penny. But I won’t let my master ruin your love. The joy of every woman is motherhood." Hughes said.

"Master Osvaldo might be crazy, but I know he loves you. Maybe that’s why he wants to..."

"That’s not love." Penny voiced out.

"Trying to kill my child and destroy my womb is not love." She added.

"Those drugs and the one he gave you are for aborting the child. I hope you won’t have a miscarriage, Miss Penny." Penny quickly checked the glass she had drunk from...
