“Ethan, my head hurts.”
Natalie’s delicate voice broke through the tension in the room. She pressed her hand to her forehead, looking like Isabella’s words had given her a splitting headache.
Isabella watched her, her eyes full of sarcasm. Natalie was obviously faking, just trying to escape the question.
Ethan hurried over, worry all over his face. “What’s wrong? Didn’t you take your medicine? I’ll call Dr. Baker and ask her to come by.”
He pulled out his phone and made the call.
Once he’d arranged for the doctor, Ethan slid his phone back into his pocket. He looked at Isabella, taking a deep breath, his voice turning gentle and pleading. “Isabella, let me take care of the wedding gift issue. I promise I’ll make it right, just give me a month, okay?”
“Natalie isn’t feeling well... Can we let her rest for now?”
Isabella sat down again, her gaze locked on Natalie. She caught the little spark of challenge in Natalie’s eyes and knew she was pretending, but she didn’t bother to call her out.
“The wedding gift was given to me. It’s my property. I’ll handle it myself. You don’t need to worry,” Isabella said coolly. “Natalie, if you’re really not feeling well, maybe check in with Jordan.”
Would Jordan really go on a business trip if Natalie was actually sick? And on such short notice?
