After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World novel Chapter 1460

Chapter 1460: The Current Military (Part 1)

While the various Research projects were progressing nonstop, the territory’s Military Might definitely did not fall behind.

There were now more than 3000 guards in the territory, with a very high ratio of 30 normal citizens to every guard. They did not have slaves after all, so their ratio was a bit more stringent than others.

This was not even considering that the majority of the residents could willingly be ’conscripted’ the moment they were needed.

To compare, according to their data, the average Towns had a ratio of 1:100 to 1:150. Someone who studied Terran history even said that the Ancient Grome empire had 1:100 ratios, and the typical medieval fiefs had slightly lower ratios at 1:150 to 1:300.

Of course, unlike those civilizations, Xenoans were not only prone to continuous wars, but they had to go against nature and beast mobs, too, so it was understandable they had more fighters.

Anyway, all of these guards were systematically trained, particularly to the specializations they seemed to excel at. There was also a more intricate assignment system, which would still rotate quarterly for skill development, to make them more versatile and adaptable.

This world was so volatile, and their sentinels were the first line of defense and rescuers the territory had. They had to be prepared for whatever came their way.

It’d also improve the cohesion amongst the entire guard team because everyone would have worked with everyone before. As such, this would also improve an individual’s team play because they’d be able to work with many kinds of people and be aware of many styles.

It would also prevent the formation of strict and exclusive cliques which could, in the long term, have negative effects on the overall cohesion of their military.

For now, they divided the guard team into 6 departments, which should be the usable arrangement until they become a City. One restructuring was enough, especially considering how fast Alterra actually upgrades.

First was the Operational Security Department, which would comprise more or less 30% of the whole team.

It would be divided between Patrol Units, who would do the regular 28-hour patrol of the territory, and the Stationary guards who were placed around the territory, including the gates as well as fixed places guarding the battlements.

They would also be in charge of the mobs that attacked the territory on a daily basis, and were responsible for keeping them out of the Town.

Anyway, with the number of sentries and the continuous clearing of mobs outside (as well as the passionate citizens looking for fight/loot), a single guard could cover several meters of battlement with little problem.

The team leaders here would be the ones to have the different colored flares and other alert mechanisms, making sure the swift passage of information in case of attacks and similar emergencies.

For those doing rounds, they would be the point person in case of chaos or emergencies happening within the Town itself.

The second was the Enemy Control Department, which would have at least 40% of the force.
