Observing Mrs. Caroline Lewis’s fervent defense of her daughter, I felt a deep pang of heartache pierce through my chest. Perhaps it stemmed from having once been treated as Mrs. Lewis’s own during her episodes when she mistook me for her lost child. The maternal warmth she had shown me during those confused moments had touched something deep within my soul.

Mrs. Lewis cradled Lily protectively, her silver hair catching the harsh hospital lighting as she glared at Dominic with righteous fury. “You have no right to treat my daughter this way,” she declared, her voice trembling with emotion.

Lily immediately panicked, her emerald eyes wide with terror. She clung to Mrs. Lewis desperately, her wolf whimpering with fear.

Tears streamed down her face as she looked around the room at each of us in turn. “Fine. If that’s how you

feel, then I don’t want this family anyway.”

“I’d rather disown all of you than undergo that humiliating test,” she declared dramatically.
