They had rehearsed this move countless times. This time, Vanessa sensed something was off with the longsword. The instant her opponent lunged, she instinctively dodged backward.

Had she not reacted so quickly, that blade would have pierced clean through her shoulder.

Aria asked with concern, “What really happened with that stage accident last time?”

The stage accident was hushed up, and it disappeared from the trending topics within minutes.

Vanessa thought it was Myla who had told her and was just about to ask when Aria cut in. “The reporters outside mentioned it.”

Aria pressed further, “So, how did you deal with what happened last time?”

Aria frowned. “Another accident?”

The odds of such accidents happening were astronomically low. She might barely accept the first as a fluke, but for it to happen again? That was beyond

coincidence.

Vanessa lifted a hand and gently smoothed the furrow between Aria’s brows. “Babe, stop worrying so much. I can totally take care of myself.”

Vanessa paused slightly, then countered, “You think he’s behind this?”

Aria nodded again, her expression grave. “Yes.”

“Have you two met before?” Vanessa asked, eyeing Aria curiously.

“No,” Aria replied after a brief pause. “Possibly someone connected to the target.”
