Chapter 8 

The wind howled outside the window. It was so chilly that Wynter couldn’t help but shrink further under the covers. 

Noticing her discomfort, Ewan immediately got up and shut the windows. As he looked at the chaotic gusts swirling across the courtyard, Nova’s figure appeared in his mind for some reason. 

She’d looked so thin and frail today, as if the wind could blow her away at any moment. Just by looking at her, he could almost feel her pain himself. If he’d chosen to give her the anesthesia back then, would she not have had to endure so much pain? 

Once the thought surfaced, Ewan slapped his head and forced himself to stop thinking. If he’d chosen Nova, Wynter would now be the one suffering. Wynter had always been sensitive to pain. Nova surely would understand why he had made that choice. 

After Ewan convinced himself, his gentle gaze fell on Wynter. Then, he leaned in and planted a deep kiss on her forehead. 

Five days later, Wynter was discharged from the hospital. 

It wasn’t until Ewan carried her into the car that he suddenly remembered Nova was still in the hospital. 

He slapped his forehead, and after thinking about it, he decided to turn back and pick her up. 

After all, Nova had donated a kidney to Wynter. His rationality reminded him that he shouldn’t leave her in the hospital alone. But when he reentered the hospital and went upstairs, he realized he had no idea which ward Nova had been staying in. For the past five days, he’d been so focused on caring for Wynter that he hadn’t spared a single thought for Nova. Frowning, he casually stopped a nurse walking by and asked, “Excuse me. Do you know which room Nova Sterling is in?” “Nova Sterling? We don’t have any patient by that name here,” the nurse replied. 

Ewan’s expression turned grave. “That’s not possible. Think about it. She had surgery on the same day as my girlfriend.” The nurse slapped her forehead at that and exclaimed, “Ah! Now I remember. She was discharged five days ago.” “Discharged? That can’t be right. She just had surgery, so how could she have been discharged I so soon?” Ewan asked. 

“I’m sure of it. The doctor advised her to rest for a few more days, but she insisted on leaving. Maybe she had something urgent to take care of.” With that, the nurse walked off, but Ewan stood rooted to the spot.
